I will try to keep this brief. I found the 348 of my dreams. Car was represented to me, and showed to be perfect. I put down a deposit on ther car, and received a signed invoice from the dealer. I also signed the invoice, showing my deposit and the remaining balance. As the dealer was performing final checks for delivery of the car, the technician could not get the car to idle right. He found that the cars timing was off by one tooth. The dealer says the car jumped timing, but since it had a major service 1500 miles ago my guess is that it was set wrong at the last shop. Now the dealer says they can't sell me the car unless they jack the price up $6500 to cover the cost of the service, to fix the car right. I feel I have a signed agreement to deliver the car to me for a set price. If the car is not right they must make it right at no cost to me, or they should not have advertised it as ready for sale, and perfect in all aspects. Secondly is there any major damage that can occur, with the car running slightly off timing for a while?? Thanks for any advice you can give. Keep in mind this is a rare version of a 348, and it would be very hard to just go find another.

Never let a dealer bump you up after you've agreed on price. They will laugh and call you a "sucker" behind your back for life if you fall for it (common stunt).

Walk, and don't let them talk you back into the car when they agree to give you back your old price (they will).

I know it's sucks to walk away, but if there going to pull that kind of sh@t screw-um. My car check out fine when I bought it. about a week later I had a cat go out, took it back to the dealer (after the deal was done) and they replaced the cat and both o2 censors at NO cost to me.

Isn't that called bait and switch? What rare 348 is it? I think your options are either demand your deposit back and run or require the dealer to fix the problem as part of the sale. Depending on what state you're in and what your agreement says, you may have a legal action for consumer fraud, fraud, misrepresenation, or fraudulent inducement. I've never heard of a dealer refusing to sell a customer any car. What dealer is this?

That is pure BS--as people have been telling me, that is one reason to buy from a dealer in the first place. Walk or make them fix it. What dealer is it?

Personally, I find it hard to believe that the timing issue was just now discovered...

How does one drive a car 1,500 miles and not realize that the timing is off?

Sounds to me like they are trying to pull a fast one on you. Even if they address the problem at no charge to you, I would still have the car checked by an independent mechanic...

If they represented a "perfect car" and you agreed in a signed document on a price for said vehicle they are legally obligated to deliver it to you at that price! There is no reason why you should pay more if anything I would have them lower the price because the vehicle is obviously not "perfect" and take it to your own shop to have it fixed.
THEY ARE AT FAULT HERE AND SHOULD BE AFRAID OF YOU! You have the upper hand as they have clearly and simply lied, and in a calculated effort misguided you- As a dealer their analysis of a car to be "Perfect" is considered an expert opinion and thus is legally binding.
Best of luck and in the very least your deposit should be returned in full. I would hold them to providing you with a perfect vehicle upon the agreed price.

Which idiot dealer was this ? It is amazing how other people think we are so stupid. Good call on talking to us. Sorry to see you lose the car, but turn around(with deposit) and dont look back. There are many other cars out around being sold by much more repsectful people. IMO

I second that. I would definitely buy from an f-chatter. I will be posting my own horrible dealer story soon. I've been waiting for the dealer to step up first. I believe in being fair and patient. My patience is running out though.

FWIW, I bet the cams were not timed properly during the belt service. They usually don just jump one tooth. I bet they knew about it based on performance and their inspection. Don't go for that crap.

I had a similar thing happen to me with my Duke 748RS, they weren't sure how it happened but it did. They came to the conclusion that the belts were defective. In either case, they covered me and then some. They should give you the same service since the deal was sealed! Just look at another before reconsidering that particular F-Car.

The dealer has suspended the deal for one week until the owner gets back. He will have the final say. It seems like they may come around. They should do the right thing, as reputation is everything in this business. I don't want to reveal the name of the dealer, unless they don't do the right thing, then I will let them swing....I appreciate all of your advice, and will let you know what happens at the end of this week. This is a great community and I can't wait to get my F-car....Steve

Sounds like they're dicking you around. How rare is this 348 that you're talking about anyways! I mean there's the SS and the Challenges, is there another "especially rare" 348's out there that I dont know about!? Anyways, its not even worth the troubles now unless they're willing to discount the car dramatically.

Oh and please tell us which dealer this is, for future reference!
