Howdy, this is my first post. I just graduated from college in May (B.S. in math) and I want to fly in the military. I have no flight experience. My prefered branch would be Air Force by far, but I am also interested in the Coast Guard and maybe the Marines. I would be interested in the Navy but I do not want to be stuck on a boat all the time. I want to fly fighter jets of course (who doesn't?) but I just want to fly period. I have been told by one Air Force recruiter that my GPA of 3.3 is not high enough to be competitive for a pilot candidate slot.

Are there any Air Force guys here who can confirm that I DON'T stand a chance of getting selected? Or hopefully tell me that I DO?

Does anyone have any advice on which branch I should pursue and hopefully any past experiences on how they went about doing what they did?

I always thought the military wanted to teach you how to fly their way, but some recruiters are saying I need my private liscense already; Is this becoming the case in the military and are there any recommended routes or pitfalls to look out for in acquiring my private liscense?

I know that some of these questions may have already been asked and answered in previous posts on this forum. I am reading through past posts and trying to gather as much helpful information as I can but I also know that times change and some answers may be a little different now. If you have any helpful advice or answers for me, I am more than eager to hear it and thank you in advance. I feel like I am at a big crossroads in my life right now, anyone else ever felt that way? ;-)

Hope to see all of you in the sky someday,
    Cody

what type of recruiter are you going to see? you need to go and see an Officer recruiter they will give you much better information that the normal enlistee recruiter. It will be hard a hard road since many would have liked you to be in an ROTC program. but contact you local Officer recruiter as wee what they have to say.

I have never heard that the military wants an applicant to have a private pilots license. They have always wanted someone to start from scratch in their programs so they don't have to break any bad habits. Talk to someone who is familiar with the requirements to get into flight school. Good luck.

I have always thought that too. But I have had three AF recruiters tell me now that I need my liscense and probably at least a 3.4 GPA. One recruiter told me I need at least 100 hours. If there are any AF guys on this site or if anyone knows any AF guys who could give me some pointers that would be great.
