It all depends on the person. I bought the car with high mileage because I intend to drive it, its not going to be a garage queen. I am the 2nd owner of the car, I know I will lose a few bucks, but driving the car is worth it :)

The guy before me is the one that got killed on it. I spoke to a friend of mine yesterday who owns an exotic dealership in TX, he said if I go from 18-25k miles this year, I may lose 7500-10k or so. No biggie!!!

Al on this Forum has a gorgeous low mileage Red/Tan Loaded 360 for $169K. But it only has like 5,000 Miles or so.

It is Al Lapeter's car on this forum and I believe he has it for sale at Steve Harris Imports. There is a link with his 430, send him an PM.

I think a lot of this obsession with mileage goes back to the pre-Fiat owner days when every mile on a Ferrari meant heavy maintenance and another step toward the graveyard. I know I was afraid to look too hard at my Lusso much less drive it
Now, these cars should be driven but, they should also be properly maintained. If you can prove a solid history on a car, you should not be afraid of it. I had all the records on my 360 including updates, MSRP, and maintenance. I passed these on to the new owner. I have the same on my 575M.
Having said that, search all the sites you can. Record the prices, miles, etc. and come up with your offer. It will take you the better part of a day. Time well spent. This is no different than researching a possible investment in anything else-stock, fund, bank, etc.
If you're a reasonable person, your gut won't be far off.

This seems to always come up. I have a 360 Modena for sale that has 42K on the clock that runs stronger and stronger each day.

From talking to many mechanics/shops they all say that older cars with less milage can have issues due to the fact they are not driven. So not driven causes belts to crack, seals/gaskets to fail due to non lubrication, bearing failure due to load non movement, etc. Basically have you heard of people that let motocycles/cars sit so long that the tires get flat spots? Same concept.

But at the same time higher milage cars are less expensive.

I personaly think if you want to drive the car, get one with some miles on it. If you want a show piece that sits in the garage, get one with low miles.

You are indeed fortunate to have found a good car with some real miles on it. These cars simply get better the more they are driven. Most Ferraris with high mileage get that way through cruising driving not hard running and the mileage makes everything better. The seals are better, the engine becomes smoother and the the possibility of some piece breaking because it became brittle and dry without use is remote.
You should be concerned with the state of the tires, brakes and regular scheduled services, otherwise enjoy the car and keep on driving!

It is funny when people use the words 18,000 miles and high miles in the same sentence....

It's unfortunate what F-car owners and banks have created. God forbid the car is driven more then 3K mi. p/yr.!

i couldn't agree more. this "ferraris keep their value well" is somewhat of a scam-they keep their value well as long as you don't drive it. if you would put 12k miles/year for a few years on your new f430, what would happen to the value then? hey, if you buy a 997s and hardly drive it, the car will retain it's value also. my advice-pay your money, and enjoy that marvelous car. drive it every day. if you can't afford the depreciation, then you never could afford that car in the first place. if you have to buy it and pay 200k so that you can keep it under 1500 miles/year, you have a sad state of affairs. do you guys buy your 2.5 million estates and not move into them? have fun with those ferraris, take them to work, etc-enjoy them and drive them in good health.

I was thinking the same thing, I put 40K a year on my DD.

Also, I can't imagine having a Ferrari AND letting it sit in the garage, what would be the point of even owning it ?
