I want to develop a page on my website where dealers can click into, fill in their name and password and go to an ordering page that will list my parts by catagory, part number and price and be able to type in a quantity and place their orders. Once placed, I will get an email stating that there is a new order to fill. I have 230 part numbers in about 9 catagories.

I got a quote today for the above at $975.00, where they will do everything and set up the link from my Frant Page 2000 website. Question: Is this a fair price for the above service that I need?

Copy exactly what you said, get some quotes, and check our their portfolios. I've been very happy with their services. :)

It seems reasonable, I did one for 680 parts for about 1500$ the difference might be that the list of products my client gave had no logic, (ie some products did have description others just a number and a price and some other situations worst than this) so it took me quite a long time to design a database which would work well and not change much of the structure of his list.

So again I would think is reasonable, if someone does it for 200$ I would check on how they plan to do it first since they might not care on speed, reliability of the end product.

Good advice, as I know I can't be penny wise and pound foolish on this.

Amen. My website is setup using FP 2000 and Access databases.

It's tough to find a competent person to do this... I thought with as many friends as I have in IT and web design I could "self manage" a project similar to yours (online insurance quote requests). I had, like, zero budget. I paid a guy to set it up for me, but it looked horrible, and, in his defense, *I* didn't know exactly what I wanted and therefore didn't communicate my wishes very well.

I ended up learning how to design it the way I wanted it, and paying a buddy in beer currency to help me make it work. It's still not perfect, but I had to stop focusing on it. Net result is that it's paid for itself, and later this year I'll have a better budget to get it done the way I want, once and for all.

    Peter,

My web page designer is real good but works for dirt cheap.

He built my website HRspaceTech.com and Favoritescafe.com for 20% of what most other companies told me. If you're really interested I can contact him and he'll probably do it for less then $350.00 to be honest with you. Plus he's quick and has great support even after you pay him, he'll make minor changes, etc for free. Plus you don't pay him til you're satisifed with the end product.

    If you're interested
