I guess the question is for those that have replaced there stock wheels with 17" or 18" wheels. I was trying to see if my new wheel, 8.5x18 with Goodyear F1, will fit in the spare compartment. It doesn't. Anybody else using a spare? And if so, what did you use? Can i use my 390MM spare for emergency? Chris
Chris, I have my stock tire as a spare for an emergency, to load on a flatbed make sure you have the stock lugs too.
Chris, Your car has 5 metric wheels/tires originally, correct? And you wanted to sell the set of 5 to recoup some of the costs to set up the car with the new ones? I'd keep the originals fore resale if I were you but I understand if you want to make up some of the cost of the new ones. Maybe selling 4 would be just as effective as selling the 5 if that is the case? Then keep the 5th for a spare. I would assume there isn't much diameter difference to use as a spare. Another possibility is what BMW does with the M3 convertible. A compressor and a can of the goo that plugs leaks. Certainly not as good as a spare but better than nothing. Or, get a small temp spare like my '89 has. Probably pretty expensive. Jeff

Hmmm... we have the same bolt pattern (and fairly close offset) to a Volvo, so why not take the space saver spare from a Volvo? Maybe that might work... Bob
I'm still dragging my 14 incher around with me! As pointed out, do a test fit on both front & rear to make sure you have an appropriate selection of lugs, etc. That means you're likely to be toting 10 lugs with you for front vs. rear! Then comes the question... what are you gonna do with that flat tire? It's gonna have to ride in the passenger seat, so you may want to hit Discount Tire or some such and get a tire bag to store it in.
Funny, I'm dealing w/ this EXACT same issue right now! My stock 14" spare will not fit around my large aftermarket brakes. I have 17" Speedlines on the car currently. 1977 308 GTB. So, I'm on the hunt for a appropriate spare. I know Volvo uses the 5/108 bolt pattern. So do some Lincoln cars, apparently. The 308 uses +11 offset front AND rear, right? That appears to be difficult to find. I did find an economical possible solution: the Voxx MG. It comes in 17" X 7", 5/108 bolt pattern, but it's +40 offset. Only $125 at Discount Tire. It's a 5-spoke star pattern too. Does anybody know if +40 will work on a 308 for a short distance? Thanks, Greg
Greg, there's a thread that I started (albeit for Mondials) discussing the Voxx MG and Misano wheels. For Mondials, it probably will work. For 3x8 (non ABS) models, the offset is too aggressive. I spoke with Scott at Voxx Wheel and the MG comes in a 17x7 with +40 (as you stated) and a 17x8 with +20 offset. I think for the 3x8 cars, it'll be difficult to get either to fit without having to mill-down the hub on the wheel because of the heavy positive offset. It might be worthwhile to find 4 owners of 3x8 cars and purchase a set of the Superperformance wheels in the same size, and you all get one. That way you have a spare in 16" size. Bob
Funny, Greg, I deleted a line I started typing about big brakes..... You could use that +40mm offset wheel with a spacer. I'd get the wheel, check the size of the pilot bore compared to the 78(?)72(?)mm and then see what kind of spacer setup you'd need. You would want something like the Type II from Hill Engineering... http://www.hill-engineering.co.uk/ferrari-wheelspacers_m.htm
