Call it conspiracy theory or proof, Mercedes lost 5 races in a row and were so desperate to get back in the world Championship that they have resorted to less than integrity minded tactics to eliminate the competition at all cost. The problem is that the penalties imposed by the FIA arent strenuous enough and Mercedes is fully aware. What are the odds that during the first lap of the Belgium Grand Prix that one of the two Mercedes drivers takes out one or more cars!

Well there’s no room here for a Ferrari thread, that’s for sure, what with all the HAM trolls.

And since it wasn’t a Ferrari driver that knocked out his rival at the last race, or impeded said rival in qualifying this race before his teammate and sister team driver eliminated half the grid today, not much Ferrari bashing going on; so what else to talk about? More Hamilton, Stroll or Vettel threads? Enough of those already.

I think their change of fortune is more related to the modification of tyres after (oh, irony) Verstappen´s crash at Baku. I´d feel pity for Red Bull but in 2013 they screwed us with another tyre modification mid season, so hey, karma is a ***** (Mercedes also benefited from that, but I´m a patient man, their karma will catch them later).

Having said that, and coming from Silverstone, I´d apply a way harsher penalty to Bottas, just as a gentle reminder for all competitors that crashing is not an acceptable way of winning a championship.

I guess we will see how idiotic it is in a few weeks time. The point is that the penalties issued by the FIA simply are slaps on the wrist. Hamilton takes out the points leader and he goes on to win the race even with the FIA penalty. That simply is unacceptable and sets a very poor precedence for continued bad behaviour. Coincidently a week later basically the same thing happens again? The FIA needs to step up and issue meaningful penalties for drivers that intensional/unintentionally are adversely impacting other teams, especially those that are competing for the championship. I believe if a car sustains race ending damage due to the direct negligence of another team, that team should be automatically ejected from the race. That will solve this issue.

By Spa Bottas will most likely be informed regarding his future.Either way he will be starting towards midfield so a fair chance he will manage to collide with someone.

Not the first time a new Pirelli tyre made Mercedes suddenly very fast.

I think the question is which Red Bull of the 4 will take out Hamilton? The penalty isn’t strong enough to not do it.

Dumb thread but I’ll play along.

The aerodynamic improvement made by Mercedes at Silverstone is practically invisible to the naked eye but yet it transfigured the car.. They’re still strong these Germans!

Bottas can easily afford to torpedo rival teams before he goes to Williams.

    +1

Michael Schumacher received much harsher FIA penalties for lesser incidents.

They tried everything to slow him down :D

I agree. The steering inputs by the drivers are not the same...not as much sawing at the wheel in a corner. Still saw some snap oversteer in Hungary, but that may have been more about set-up.

Chiming in on Bas commentary, the other issue the Merc struggled with was tire heat window. We haven't heard about that lately.
