on an '89 328, is there supposed to be a cork gasket on the distributor cap? the parts manual pic on f-uk shows gasket part no 119409, which is the cork one. However, I have these plastic pieces between the seal plate and the cap which aren't on the diagram (looks like it prevents oil that leaks past a seal from puddling in the cap), so it's not clear if that thing replaced the cork gasket, or is supposed to be in addition to the cork guy. While having the gasket or not mucks with the rotor position inside the cap, it's apparently not enough to bother anything....there was a cork gasket on the front bank, and none on the rear. Been that way at least 10K miles.
Hi Wolf, August 1988 with original distributor caps (dated when I removed) had only cork gasket between cap and housing. Carl
