Plus 10 percent buyers premium, 82.5, closer to mkt. BJ is not a place to sell ferrari's, should have been at RM vintage cars..Well bought...buyer won't get hurt at that price!!

Watched the tape of it again, the dash looks warped. Also according to the commentators, the seats were very worn. Makes you wonder what else it needed...

I spoke with the dealer last year about the car and they reportedly spent in the neighborhood of 14k in mechanical work on the car. Much was done to bring the car up to a good state of reliablilty, according to them. So they probably had even more in the car, unless I am mistaken and the previous owner did the mechanical work, and that may have been the case. But in any event I think It's a pretty nice car and a good deal at that price. The seats look dry, but that was the only obvious fault.

It was at the wrong auction. If it were a 57 Chevy station wagon, could have gotten 90k I know, I don't get it either.

No doubt what a joke. A 69 Camaro for $500k, and a perfect restored 300SL Gullwing with Luggage (perfect car) for $550K. What is going on?

I just cannot understand the rediculous amounts American muscle cars are getting. There is nothing handmade about them, and their purpose as a vehicle when made new was not speed, performance, or driver satisfaction, it was greed and $$$$.

    Several things:

    1. It ain't time for Boxers yet. They ain't Daytonas and probably will not be for a few years to come.

    2. This is a well known car. That is good and bad. I believe that it sold to a California dealer last Spring at Keels and Wheels for.... about this same price.

    3. Refer back to #1. Boxers never had Dan behind the wheel for Gumball. They look like a 308 to those who don't know better. I'm not saying that they are not great cars. In fact, the case can be made that they are the last true Ferraris. However, that sword cuts both ways.

when i heard it was going to be run through i was actually sad...know full well that it would have no audience to buy it there. bj is a muscle car show and at best...just a show.

i hope those that know will not use the aj car to judge the market. i know how mutch it would take to buy mine and...75k aint the number!

Economics 101....supply v demand. Simple. There is little 'intrinsic' value in used cars, period. Its all about sentiment for collectors, and low cost plus readily available maintenance for the newbies. Also, the stock market sucks so every red blooded American figures he might have something tangible to invest in. The pendulum will swing once the newbies get out of the market.

I sorta think that BJ Auction intentionally lets a less-than-perfect Ferrari or Lamborghini into the auction to "downplay" these cars and artificially elevate their bread and butter - the musclecars. They (BJ) are basically running their own market. Sure BJ likes to see world record prices set, after all they get a piece from both the buyer and the seller. I hate what they are doing to the car hobby. They are making it so the little guy can't ever aquire his dream car because it's priced out of this world. It turns my stomach to see all the hoopla generated when huge money is spent on a car that was made in the tens of thousands. If Ferraris ever become the next big thing, you can bet BJ will do a 180 degree turn and elevate these cars and downplay the musclecars. It is so self-serving. But yet I still watch it...must be something wrong with me eh?

Has a Boxer ever sold for even fair market value at BJ?
Never has and probably never will, the seller didn't think this one through.

That poor Foyt BB has been treated like a 2 bit hooker ever since he sold it, passed around everywhere, clearly Foyt owning it has made no difference in its collectability or price, it would probably sell for a higher price if the future sellers distanced themselves from him owning it and the cars rep.

I don't know about Boxers, but my Mondial sold three years in a row for about double fair market value at B-J! Over $40k the last time.

When I bought it (well before it's B-J fame), I paid $24k and I thought I got ripped off.

Let me add that this was the second recent BB sale I've heard about in the 70s, so I'm not sure that wasn't a reasonable price for that car.

I believe a 308QV sold for nearly $50k+ awhile back also, just shows how BJ buyers know little about collectable Ferraris.
However if this Foyt BB is in below average condition $82k is not bad for a beater, probably would have only brang mid $50s 3 or 4 years ago

I've no connection with BJ and am not a dealer, etc, etc. However, BJ is kinda like the drug cartels - the market determines the price. Ascending markets are "how high" buyers will go; descending markets are "how low" sellers will go. Same story, 49th verse.

Right now, muscle rules, and BJ can't - as a prudent business - turn away.

I don't believe they can "make" a market behave any way it wasn't already headed, but they can coax the heck out of it. The last few years, V8 muscle has ruled along with 'invented' iterations (repros, hot rods, resto rods, retromods and other offspring). Pebble Beach would've had you arrested for saying you even KNEW anyone with a hotrod a few years back and now has a "class" just for them. Sign of the times.

In the late 80's early 90's, the situation WAS reversed. Those of my age and older saw that in full flaming force while Detroil iron mostly languished far, far in the long shadows cast by anything ending in 'i'.

So even though no one likes it when the 'true' enthusiasts get nudged aside by 15 Rolex encrusted bidder's arms (or heaviliy tattoed, depending) that run the prices too far too fast, rest assured, it'll come back to sanity eventually.

When I see an AAR Cuda (awesome car by the way) or an LS6 Chevelle (this little piggy went to market) hit 6 digits, it makes almost ANY Ferrari look like a bargain by comparison. AJ's Boxer included.

Imagine how sick you'd feel to have been "this close" to getting the muscle car of your dreams a few years back... now to watch it's dim tailghts go into the 8 car garage of a guy who "had to have it" more than all the other monied and mildly drunken bidders looking for 5 minutes of fame on Speed. Tsk, tsk. Same way I felt in 1990 when "my" 330GTC hit $200g.

Hope this doesn't come off wrong, but I half "celebrate" that Boxers are 'only' $80+/-, Testarossas are a $70+/- 'bargain' and 328s are a Filene's-like $40g. Let the Detroit iron have its day; we'll have ours. Carry on.

Yep...Dr. Who is correct this was a huge gamble gone wrong......I dunno who got left holding the bag...

This car was sold for $128K by AJ hisself at the Indy auction, the buyer (90s) thought he was ON THE WAY to a $250K value.......then he died!
God is merciful, sometimes....actually $128K was only maybe 40K above market, at the time, you could ague that was the "AJ' or "Auction frenzy" premium...

Car trapped in amber as the widow waits......and waits ....and waits....JRV must have devarnished the injection system ten times, over the next 15 years or so......by the way the Oxblood interior is just horrible, colorwise IMO......whatever. I knew I should have waited outside as my kids were born....that's the color....'afterbirth' red!

Here it comes! Keels and Wheels! It'll be FREE, FREE AT LAST!.....Thank God Almighty, we are free at last! .........yawn.....$65K......plus at this point we gotta get serious about roadworthyness in case it actually makes it up an On Ramp somewhere. I guess Vintage WAS the buyer, or a straw man, so they go the $15K rework..

West Coast dealer gets it, and per our own MSDesign, "BOXERS ARE $150K NOW! ALL OF THEM!"...........yawn........no takers at $99K.........anyone?.....Bueller? "Hellooooooooo!".....echo.....echo...echo.....

So here we are...."Fnck it boys, push it back to the Wholesale Row and call the truck......"

A sad end on this car.......myself, a new black Daytona seat and carpet kit and I'd've driven the wheels off it........probably no one has, since Mr. A.J. Foyt, Jr.........hisself! Ferda at Vintage is probably the only one, 'till now!

    And JRV............

    ....sorry to ramble! LOL!

Yea, short answer: Wrong crowd to sell ANY Ferrari.........even at Keels and Wheels, the Fcars got no love.........but a Hemi 'Cuda was a cool half million.....

The West Coast guys should have delivered it out to Pebble......dunno who made that call. I talked on the phone with someone going out to kick the tires at 99K........hope he was the one at BJ........I doubt it though..

Hopefully they'll let AJ sign the sun visor and push it into a Museum somewhere, before someone uses it and it burns to the ground!

BJ should rename coverage of the event to "Car guys gone wild". It features middle-aged guys getting caught on tape doing things they are going to look back on in utter disbelief when the bubble bursts.

$5M for a Cobra - I just don't get it. Is everyone in America this liquid?

I'm going to join the Boxer community as soon as I find the right car - preferably before the world wakes up and figures out how they stack up against a Hemi Cuda.

Hang in there guys - Boxers will have their day.
