I for one would applaud you. If I was very rich I'd be doing this.

But I think this "put back right" GTE will always be a storied car but just imagine how much fun it would be to destroy the replica bodywork

But on this site (1961 Ferrari 250 GTE Coupe = Correct Soild dry driver $389k For Sale on Car And Classic UK [C517686]) you can purchase NICE GTE's for ~$390,000 US.

Would not take more than $100k to make the replica ... do nearly $150k profit for destroying a genuine Ferrari. B@stards ... there is more to life than making money.

Last time I navigated my way to this site I had to click on www.FerrariChat.com so I assumed that I would be chatting to Ferrari enthusiasts and people that like Ferraris, and are fans of old cars especially in the Vintage section.

Here are the indisputable facts:
a. It's just a car.
b. A genuine Ferrari was destroyed to make this replica.
c. If we are talking about a 1960's Ferrari we are talking about an historic car that has survived nearly 55 years. That for any car is amazing. Heck that is older than I am.
d. Yes some were lost to period rebodies, but that was when they were near new and happens to all cars and is part of the improvement/try things process. Note very few period rebodies REPLICATED another Ferrari model.
e. Interestingly we have a category of car enthusiasts that dribble over these sorts of survivor cars.
f. Most of these cars were very much saveable and not crashed or rusted beyond feasible restoration.
g. These old cars were hand beaten out by Pininfarina/Scagletti craftsman and welded by hand in to the resulting vehicle. That should mean something to this community.
h. The replica is made for profits, ie. somebody is making money or it would not happen.
i. The replica is made by a nobody. Skilful yes but adds nothing to its collectability. Yes some are have a better reputation than others but we are not anywhere near Pinin Farina or Scagletti and never will be.
j. Yes the owner of the car can do what they please, but this is not ownershipandlegality.com

I cannot understand why so many are/were unsympathetic about GTE #2709. The correct response for ANY and ALL Ferrari enthusiasts is "what a shame" and "I wish this would not happen".

Would the posters that will not say "I wish this would not happen" take a 6" grinder to their Ferraris and cut them up? If you won't then aren't you being two faced? If you would take a grinder to your Ferrari, are you really a Ferrari enthusiast?

Lewis Hamilton

At no time in this sites history, or at least since I've been a member (which is quite a long time), have we had this sort of weird situation in the F1 section where, for example, a poster could say that "Kimi is a rapist" and receive hardly a murmur (to this incorrect post), and yet the response to "I think Lewis lost a bit of time on that last lap" would cause an outrage of passionate how dare you say that about Lewis posts and go on for 20+ pages.

Again this is www.FerrariChat.com and Lewis does not even drive a Ferrari. When Michael drove for Ferrari he had his fans and his detractors, same with Alonso, etc. but at the moment it appears to be against this sites rules to talk about Lewis unless in a very positive note.

Just weird and irritating, and simply mind numbing. I don't get it and also don't get why it is allowed to continue?

Why when nothing new is being discovered, is this thread allowed to continue by particularly one poster who simply will not let it go. Must be a relative of mine because it reminds me of arguments with my sisters as a child where we would argue black is white, etc. ... sigh.

The facts are simply:
a. The car that Jim has lovingly restored may or may not have a % of the original #0846 chassis. There is nothing more to it.
b. Why does this one particular poster have to prove that it has 0% of the original #0846 chassis?

I feel until the poster honestly answers b. above he should not be able to post in that thread. Heck if I was Jim I would have taken a sledge hammer to the car by now just to shut the poster up.

I just don't get it, and with 2 and 3 why it is allowed to continue?. Are we trying to compete with Facebook dribble like content?

Well to really get your blood boiling... I can actually tie the whole thing together for you and even put a bow on it.

Concerning number 1. You assume all ferrari enthusiasts are vintage enthusiasts. They are not. Many could care less about cars older than say a 355. It sucks... but its true. All Ferrari enthusiasts do not embrace all things ferrari as golden.

Speaking of Golden... lets move on to topic 2 and 3!

As you have seen from the F1 forums, somethings get swept under the rug and other minor offenses get blown way out of proportion due to the fan base. SHOCKER IN SPORTS. I HAVE NEVER SEEN THAT BEFORE (I wish there was a font called sarcastic) LOL. Favoritism in a heavily opinionated topic? no...

Personally...I have my own opinion on 0846 and have my own information on the car etc... I am not going to weigh in on the car in particular. What I would say is that the VAST majority on here swings from Jim Gs nuts like its going out of style. Everything he does is God like and he is untouchable. Many things he does is over celebrated to a ridiculous extent.

Now let me say this... I have no issue with him. He has been kind to me in the very minor engagements we have had and helpful as I have been to him. He seems like a good guy. He has done many many neat things with Ferraris. I applaud that. I just sometimes think he is put up on a pedestal that perhaps shouldn't be there. Its not his fault at all. The nutswingers do get under my skin though.

Its the internet. The internet is made up of people. Many flawed individuals who have internet access and a key board. Hell... many flawed individuals with multiple personality disorders LOL.

Hmmm, you seem to be missing the point or what these old cars are replicated into, ie. an OLD Ferrari.

So if these so called enthusiasts don't like old cars why do they fund these replicas of old models?
