In any event an early Euro single distributor dry sump 308.

It would be interesting if this was one of the early pininfarina study cars for a competition car. Will have to pull out my books - I seem to remember the flares were riveted on, but that could have been smoothed over when re-painted.

I may just drive over to Houston...

I forget what the story on this car is, but I belive it was a one-off race car or something. Or it was made special with a special front end by some (presumabely) famous designer for some exclusive customer who never drove it, or some such thing.

Originally, I thought I recalled it being a fiberglass car. But now that I see it's a '78, I must be wrong.

It was for sale about 5 or 6 months ago on another site.

I'll see if I can find the infor again.

found it - that car, a special one-off by Pininfarina was chassis 22711 and this one in Houston states it is chassis 22903

    From the excellent QV500 website:
"Finally, the only special factory GTB built during this period had been designed and manufactured by Pininfarina on chassis 22711. Designated as the 308 GTB 4, presumably in reference to the FIA's Group 4 racing and rally regulations of the time, this one-off competition-inspired version featured a number or hot upgrades, some of which were later seen on Ferrari's awesome 288 GTO

There were flared riveted aluminium wheelarches to accommodate wider wheels, a kick-up rear spoiler and a roof mounted rear aerofoil that later became an option on the QV. Extra driving lights were fixed into the front grille and a 365 BB dash fitted in place of the stock 308 unit. Displayed at the Geneva Salon during March 1977, public reaction was mixed although this was probably mostly to do with its distinctive livery. There is some disagreement as to whether this car still exists, some suggesting it was scrapped and others that it was sold to a Belgian collector via Jacques Swaters Garage Francorchamps"

I kinda like it. To me eye, the flared fenders compliment the deep dish euro-style spolier.

I'll second that - looks like Koenig to me too. Does not look like Pinin or factory modifications. Still, it's not near as bad as some of the Koenigs I've seen before, a bit more understated than the usual Koenig outrageousness.

How's this for splitting hairs :D

Alan Henry's book 'Ferrari - Dino 246 308 & 328' describes this car as a Pinnafarina styling study which appeared at the 1977 Turin Show...

More usefully the book also states that the wing extensions were riveted on - in fact the rivets can be clearly seen in the photograph

I like it but, the 2 tone paint and color key wheels screams "1980's". I'd like to see this car in all nero with some kind of black and chrome wheel package.

i agree. i am thinking of making an offer. a color change is a bug turn off to me, but red over silver with a regular euro valance would be nice. i would also opt to add regular QV wheels and get rid of those BBS wheels. i do prefer black interior.

euro Jalpas are nowhere to be found. i would like another 76-77 GTB, euro preferred. i wonder if this car is dry sump bieng that its a 78.......

It's a Koenig or other conversion. It's not the pinifarina mock up done way back when.

If anyone is serious about this car let me know. It's 10-minutes from my office and I can easily go look it over during lunch hour.

That ones been up for sale for quite some time now. Normally I hate the 2 tone look, but this car pulls it off quite nicely.

I went and looked at it today and I though I should summarize what I found and relayed to Russ on the phone earlier. Disclaimer: These are just my opinions and observations and everyone needs to look for themselves before purchacing said vehicle.

Heater fan on drivers side was not mounted to anything.
Drivers side door does not latch.
Car smells musty/moldy inside. Like it might have been left outside with a leaky window seal for a time.
Rear view mirror not attached (it was behind the passengers seat).
Leather very worn (but suprisingly soft).
Clutch/brake peddals worn through to bare metal.**
Drivers side floor carpet not attached.
Emergency bonnet release was there, but the grab handle was not (just a bare wire hanging out).
Engine compartment was very dirty (I think that's obvious from the pics).
Carbs are leaking (again, see the pics).
    Engine bonnet does not latch.
    Trunk zipper does not work.
    Trunk carpet falling out/not attached.
    Front bonnet does not latch.
Bumpers look to be Euro, but "Americanized" as they stick way out past the front nose of the car (look closely at the pictures).
    Passenger wiper broken off.
It has small Euro style side markers on the rear as well as the front (Did someone try to "Americanize" this car?)
The body kid looks like it would come off very easily.

I didn't ask for it to be started nor can I comment on the condition of the suspension or engine without a lift and proper PPI done by a professional.

The paint however does look very nice on the car. I'd give it a 8/10 for sure.

In MY OPINION, if you're looking for a project car, I'd say this is a good one b/c it's a Euro dry sump car with no air pumps or emmissions controls that I can see (assuming they have the DOT releases).

** I've noticed A LOT of 308's seem to have peddals like this regardless of age/mileage. I think those rubber pieces are just soft and fall apart quickly and are not a good indicator of mileage.

Very true, they certainly aren't a good indicator of age - I put new rubbers on mine (from Superformance UK) - they looked worn after just a few thousand miles.

Here is another weird bodykit for a 308. Picture taken during the "Ferrari Day" in Spreitenbach near Zurich (Switzerland) in 2005.

    That's not to my taste!
