So my drivers side window decided it didn't wanna go up just down. I popped off the switch cleaned it, drivers window works. But now my passenger window won't go up or down!! And it's all the way down. The switch lights up and it has power. I've tested all 3 switches on the drivers window and they work so it's not the switches. What the hell. It worked before I touched anything!!!! Anyone else I'd this issue.
This is a common problem. Check the wiring on the driver's door. It gets opened/closed the most and has controls for both windows. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks!!!! That's the problem. Took apart the passenger door for nothing!!!! Anyone have the pin out. I have 3 wires that broke free!!
Oh uh how do I fix it lol Can I push the pins out? They all really need redone. Now 4 have popped off and really they all could just pop free Can I buy new pins if the old ones are removable ?
Yes, they are removable. Your local electronics store may have the tool. $25 for that little pos. I think they are AMP connectors. Buy new connectors too.
You can replace the broken terminals ("AMP Connector terminal"). They are available on Ebay but you need to buy them according to the wire size (AWG). You will also need a simple tool (search Ebay, it is like a small tube) to extract the old terminals. There are other solutions like removing all connector terminals and connecting the wires directly to each other routed through the holes in the connector. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I've done a few of these. Not particularly difficult but very time-consuming. I recommend drilling out the bulkhead connector in the door jamb and splice the wires. There is access inside the front wheel well. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Guys, Thank you!! Tim that is what I am going to do. Thanks so much for the info. You guys make it easy to fix these cars lol
Doing this right now and man it sucks being colour blind. May have to get my wife to be my eyes and finish up later
So what wires from the car harness connect to what wires from the door harness. I thought they would be the same colours but they are not
Most of them should be an exact match. A couple are a little different but process of elimination will get it done. Do the easy ones first.
Perfect thanks! i guess if i get it wrong it won't hurt anything, worse case pop a fuse Really appreciate the help!
Hey, that's MY hand holding the plug in the picture above, I'd know that thumb anywhere. What fun I had in those days....
This was a mistake There is no way trial and error is going to get this to work . Does anyone have the matching colours on the car harness side? There are just too many that don't match This was pretty stupid of me to do
Unless something has been rewired before, most of them should be obvious. Post pictures if you need to. It pays to be organized.
EDIT - F ME someone has been here before!!!!! 7 wires at least where previously repaired and they used different colour wire ******** it. Tomorrow i will redo each wire one by one now that i know there are so many wrong! I had to get my wife to read off the colours, and i showed her your picture and she's like "those don't exist here" The door side is totally wrong, but in front of the non factory splice i can see the proper colours Car side Black White - 18 White -14 White with red stripe Blue with red stripe Brown with white stripe Red with black stripe Purple with white stripe Yellow with red stripe Yellow with black stripe Yellow Orange Purple with black stripe Blue Blue with Black Red Brown with Red stripe Green Door side White with red stripe Blue with red stripe Black White White Blue Blue with black Red Green Red Black with white stripe Orange with red stripe Orange with Red Stripe Orange Orange with Red Stripe Red Red with Black stripe Blue
I told you it was a common problem. I feel your pain. Do a good job now and you might outlive the repair.
ok things are not going well. All colours matched up. Here is what works - drivers window (switch lights up) - drivers mirror -passenger mirror Here is what does not work - passenger side window (switch does not light up on drivers door or passenger door) - radio -power door locks - the seat belt buzzer - interior lights - door lights (on the outer edges of the doors) I checked every fuse in the fuse panel under the hood, left side, with my eyes and even with a multimeter (continuity test, the beep) Now what
Ok small victory. There was a 20a fuse blown in the passenger side foot well fuse box. Now my passenger side window works Still no door lights power locks, radio or seat belt buzzer Any other hidden fuses?
Thanks! It was stressful for a bit there lol When I extended the wires, I used black wire and labelled them with the correct colour. So in the future if I or someone else digs in it will be much easier! Image Unavailable, Please Login
