BJ has made the January Phoenix and Scottsdale auctions a destination event attracting an increasing number of sellers and buyers in a narrower segment of the market; 1950's, 1960's, and early 1970's American iron, hot rods, "resto-mods" (a term coined by BJ), and rare American prototypes.

Ferraris and Porsches account for less than 1% of all cars to be offered by BJ and R&S combined. It is hardly worth the trip, registration expense or the admission price if that is the sort of car you are looking to buy, and very dangerous if you are selling one of those cars at no reserve.

By all measures, BJ's focus on the American Iron has been a stunning success. BJ claims to have filled their auction slots by October and Russo & Steele just announced that they have expanded their auction by adding a half day on Sunday. RM still offers an eclectic assortment of cars from multi-million dollar Cobras, Duesenbergs, and vintage racecars to $25K MGs.

Personally, I’m going to the RM and maybe a night at R&S.

BJ is fun for the circus and all the vendors. I've bought cars there in the past. An E-Type for the market price, A couple of Ferraris relatively inexpensively plus a pristine '59 Corvette for probably too much money.
The people watching is worth the price of admission, but the parking hassles are legendary, especially if it rains like in 2005.
Eat before you go or pack a lunch unless you want to pay $10 for a reheated Outback burger and $3 for a cup of ice with a splash of soda.
