There are quite a few members on this forum that are trying to decide on an aftermarket exhaust for their Ferrari. Finding sound samples for specific brands on the internet is like looking for a needle in a haystack. So what I suggest is a Forum section that contains only small MPEGS of all the different brands of exhaust i.e. Tubi, Larini etc for all the different Ferrari's available. I for one would be happy to supply lots of samples I've located to help build up the database. Every member could be welcome to add MPEGS they've found to this section. This would make it so much easier in helping people make their minds up.

Rob could try and get the various manufacturers to put them together, list part numbers, provide installation hints, F-Chat discounts etc. as well. That, coupled with the opinions and real world experiences of F-Chat members would be a good format.

    Dan,

I know but that's only Tubi sound samples, I'm talking about a section in this forum that has MPEGS of all the different brands of exhaust.

Maybe i'm an ignorant hillbilly, but would you really buy an exhaust for your car based on an MPeg sound clip? Just the way the particular exhaust is miked for recording can make a huge difference, as can the sound quality of the initial recording device, even before it gets compressed as a digital sound file.
More interesting to me would be a hardcore independent test of performance yields from various aftermarket exhausts, under controlled conditions. this was done a year or so ago for a number of Porsche muffler systems; turned out the hyped Ruf system (which i paid for to submit for testing purposes, with the understanding that i would get a refund if it didn't test well) actually made less power than the stock muffler.
I suppose, if the only thing you are looking for is a sound device, it may not matter. but, given the hype about performance gains, wouldn't it make sense to see what's really happening?

    WHART,

understandable but an MPEG can give the consumer a rough idea of what they are considering to purchase, after all its pretty expensive shopping for a decent exhaust.

Agreed, but in the case of the Porsche, on a 996 TT, it turns out that the one of the cheapest and loudest exhaust systems (FAbspeed) made the most power. The Ruf was double the price (6k dollars), quieter by far than the Fabspeed and didn't perform as well as the stock unit. You should do some searches about the additional pipes, including cross-over pipes some folks are using on cars like the 550, in addition to a change of exhaust. Optimally, i would think you'd want to increase performance, reduce weight, and have the thing sound throaty, deep and sexy to your ear without being overwhelming. The exhaust on my GT2 was unbelievably loud. The Tubis i had on various Ferraris were too loud at low speed, and too resonant. But, it's clearly a subjective thing. I also don't know how much difference these things really make to performance on a normally aspirated engine. (The Fabspeed changed how quickly the GT2 went into boost, and made it a little more linear- smoothed out the jump to hyperspeed if you know what i mean.... that's the only reason i kept it on the car, so to me, it was a trade off between improved performance and too much noise).
