Hi, I'm planning to come to KL next year in April for the F1. This is my first time in KL for this event. In other cities, during the week prior to the race, there are a number of street gatherings, car club gatherings, and private Ferrari events. Can someone summarize the usual things that occur every year? I don't want to miss anything when I am there!
Yes, they have lots of events leading up to the GP. Classic car rallies etc & lots of shopping. You can book through the internet to get good deals on hotels unless your package already covers that. The Sepang F1 circuit is about 45mins-1hr drive southwest of the city & there's train service as well (I don't think it leads to the doorstep). Anyway, you'll be well informed by the time you reach the airport. Taxis are very cheap in the city but sometimes they don't run the meter & you'd better bargain. Security is generally good & as usual stay away from dark alleys & be careful of pickpockets. It's quite a metropolis as you'll see a lot of foreigners in the city so you'd feel easy. I'd rather take the LRT within town as the daily traffic congestion is a pain & you can walk for most part of the city. There's many more things to do in other cities/national parks/beaches/resorts etc.

We're from Canada and we have family in KL. I was actually wondering about car or Ferrari related events leading up to race day. Are there any regularly scheduled car club gatherings? For example, in Montreal, a street is regularly closed in the evenings for club members to showcase their cars to the public. One night, it is Ferrari's, next night for the Lambo's, then BMW, Porsche, etc. There are other lesser known gatherings elsewhere as well.
