My parents and I will be flying to boston for the Celtics Game this upcoming saturday for game 3. This has always been a dream of my fathers to see the Celtics play in the garden.
We are flying out of Charlotte at 9 and getting to Boston at 11 and have from 11am-6pm to see the sights. I wanted to know what you natives would do with just a little bit of time in Boston and what is a must see there thank you for all your help.

Walk the historic "red line" Freedom Trail through the heart of the city around the Common.... if you
enjoy history, and don't have much time, take this self-guided tour - be sure you buy
the 'Freedom Trail tour guide" from any number of little shops around Boston Common... it only
takes a couple hours and is VERY interesting if you've never seen old Boston...

    Here's a little info: http://gonewengland.about.com/cs/bostonattractions/a/aafreedomtrail.htm

Here's a virtual tour of what you see: http://gonewengland.about.com/cs/bostonattractions/l/blfreedomtrl1st.htm

I've done it 3 times... lots of fun if you like history.

hey guys thanks so much for the information but I have another questions. Since I have never been to Boston is there any areas around I really need to steer clear of. I plan to stray not to far from the garden. I have already decided to do the freedom trail.

I would focus on the Freedom Taril , if this is what you want to do. It will also give you a good feeling for what Boston is like. You will see the Noth End, Charlestown etc... Not a bad thing to do for an afternoon. From there you could go over to Quincy Market and have a drink and dinner, or even better go back over to the North End. Great resturants.... Honestly, this is where I would go...
No need to worry about bad area's or taking a cab. Everything that I mention is within walking distance from eachother. Quincy Market, Noth End, Garden all within 10 minute walks of eachother.
Enjoy Boston. Its a great city.

Thank you all very much. Our flight was delayed a couple hours so didn't get into the city until 2. We took your wonderful advice and just relaxed and took the freedom trail. Was a great walk and wonderful to be around that much history. As I am sure you all know the game was amazing too with the 30 point blow out. Was looking to come again next weekend possibly for the Finals, but Holy cow tickets are way to expensive for the finals. Once again thank you as you all truly aided in a wonderful day.
