    Hey Guys,

I will be in Maranello later this week (Friday and Saturday) with the family. Besides the obvious stuff (factory museum, fence watching at the test track, visiting all the souvenir shops), can anyone suggest other things to do or see there? Places to eat, other places to visit, etc.

A neighbor was supposed to try and get me an invitation to tour the factory as well, but so far nothing has surfaced. :-(

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. If I get any good pics, I’ll be sure to post them on my return!

    Thanks,
    Bob

I've heard that the factory is really cracking down and enforcing the "Owners Only" policy for factory tours. They had gotten pretty lax lately AFAIK. Must be true if even your "neighbor" ;) came up empty.

Dave, same thing my "neighbor" told me, but he has not given up as of yet. He's been traveling extensively and just returned to the US last week. I need to call him today to see if he was able go anywhere with this request.

    Thanks,
    Bob

Yeah, I just saw him a few days ago and heard the tales of his travels! Good Luck!

hangout near the factory entrance and near the track...your bound to see something cool.

also i tried to get a good friend to get me a tour (owns 3 cars 330 GT, TR and a new 430) and the factory said unless he was accompanying us there was no chance...

Don't expect much in terms of restaurants. The Montana is pretty decent, but the racing relics on the walls are better than the food. The Cavallino (directly adjacent to the Planet Hotel) is about the same. Neat stuff on the walls, so-so food.

There are some nice little pizza places on the road toward Modena, but again, nothing to write home about.

The sounds coming from Fiorano are however, about as close to heaven as you can get (without taking drastic measures).

If you do a search there's a load of threads mainly in Europe or the first section about what's nearby and good and not so good

Eat at the "Montana" best pasta I have ever sampled and all the factory big wigs eat there for lunch.

    Hey guys,

Thanks for all the ideas. I'm posting this right now from the lobby of the Planet Hotel across the street from the factory. There were a "flock" of every kind of Ferrari up and down the street yesterday (Friday afternoon). A test driver stopped on the corner where I was crossing in a 599. The windows were down and I stuck in my head and asked for a ride! :) He told me he couldn't give rides, but turned off the traction control and laid down a 100 ft double line of rubber for me as he turned and left!!!!

I'll post some pics upon my return.

    Ciao!
