Holy crap what a downpour! I have a new love for Montreal locals, one of them loaned me his huge umbrella so my son and I didn't get soaked. We sat it out in the stands. For 2 hours. We got soaked anyway. I have some rain pics, will post when I get in front a real computer.
Wasn't really cold just wet. I gave up eventually and watched the restart from the hotel. It became clear that the FIA took all the fun out of the race with incessantly deploying the SC. Oh well. Was a much better race on TV than on site
The rain did suck but we did stick it out and in the end it was great to see Button overtake Vettel. Its just too bad Schumi couldnt hold on to a podium. It would of been great to see him up there again..On a personal observation..the Ferrari fans, including me, did roar for him in the drivers parade. He gave us so many championships
Will disagree with Andreas about the cold. My son was shivering so badly that I went and bought him 2 t shirts to get dry and warm. We did stick it out for the whole race though. It was worth it, we were in turn 6 and watched Button pass Vettel for the lead right in front of us. It was awesome. The other advantage to staying to the end was the Bud Light crew was just handing out the gimmee stuff at the end trying to get rid of it.
I waited it out in the rain, I'd gone anticpating a down pour so generally stayed dry(ish) sat in the stands. Whilst it wasn't that cold, after a few hours sat there with the wind blowing through a wet jacket and trousers I was starting to shiver. I thought about heading back to the hotel around 3:30, just as they announced the restart. Decided to stay and once the rain had stopped and I got the waterproofs off things started to warm up a bit. There seemed to be a reasonable atmosphere in the stands, especially once the got the race going again, big boos each time the safety car came out and round. I booed when they announced to start the race behind the SC. I so totally hate that. Standing starts are so much what F1 is about. And then the endless deployments of the SC and finally the red flag. Whatever happened to F1 of the past?
Yep, that was a disappointment. I was in stand 12 and hoping to see them all charge into the first corner. I think the nature of Montreal makes a safety car more likely, perhaps they need to be stricter with how fast they can go through sections with waved yellows. Maybe have them on the pit lane limiters so they can then at least race for the rest of the lap? The use of the safety car in the rain does seem to be worse than a few years back, I'm sure I've seen races that wet when they've just got on with it.
Wasn't terribly cold, but certainly damp. Very happy that we were under cover. More of my pics from the weekend here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150207682469727.338781.761694726&l=db1eb1032e Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I agree, did not like the fact it started with a SC. Had great a view from stand 12. Rain put a damper but well worth it.
I was there this weekend, as always Montreal as a fun time partying never disappoints Rooftop pool is at Hotel de la montange - with the weather this year the "talent" wasn't what it usually is
We were at Le Crystal downtown. Nice place, great service, I'd skip their restaurant next time, though.
Wow; looks great. I might consider that for next year, depending on rates. (need a pool for the kids!) Thanks Kevin
Not exactly cheap, but it is all suites which may end up being an OK deal if you usually get 2 rooms for the family. Ours had a nice little kitchenette with microwave, hot pot, and Nespresso machine. The pool is saltwater & indoors, hot tub & lounge chairs out on the deck (age 16 & up only out there). They deserve an extra plug, too, for not only finding the iPod I left in our room within 10 minutes of our call (I didn't even think about it until I went to pull it out when we boarded our flight, d'oh), but returning it via FedEx.
