Help me here. I have an 86 328 and 95 456. I love both, they're very different from each other. I bought the 328 3 years ago at 85 or so thousand miles (now have 89ish). The belt service had been done by Al Burtoni in Ca. (he confirmed it but I have no receipt). James at Norwood loved the car on inspection and told me "don't negotiate just buy it." Other than the odometer, you couldn't tell the high mileage. It starts. It runs. It doesn't burn oil, etc.. but it's going to need belts, stone chips and while I'm at it stuff (you know the tires are good but old, the seats are good but why not redo the interior). In short, do I sell it, dealing with the hassle of tire kickers and the oh my god it's high miles I'll give you 20k crowd; do I do belts and constrain my temptation to chase perfection; or do I go whole hog and keep it indefinitely. My long-term inclination is to have an 8 cyl. two seater, a 12 cylnider 2 plus 2 and a 12 cyl. s seater. I'm starting to like 355s at $60k.

Do the belts, keep the car and enjoy the patina of a classic sportscar that hasnt't suffered the indignity of being over-restored.

(at least, that's how I'm justifying my 77,000 mile car :D)

I would do the belts and any other mechanical maintenance it needs and keep it forever. Besides, a $60k F355 is going to cost a lot more in the long run. The real fun in your scenario is choosing the 12 cyl 2 seater. Keep us apprised.

Rats, I thought he meant a 12 cylinder SINGLE seater.

    There's a reason. They're done depreciating, too.

Alright. The uniformity speaks volumes. I'll call James tomorrow and come up with a long-term plan. And, I'll keep the car. And yes the "s" key is close to "2."

BTW. If the plan remains to keep the 328, I think an earlier vintage 12 cylinder two seat car would round things out. I'd have a pretty good cross section with an open/closed car, a 4/2 seat, front engine/mid-engine, injected/carburated--old, new and in between. Maybe it should be pre-fiat. But, that would rule out the flat 12s, interesting an unique in themselves and currently affordable (on that front I'd favor boxers for rarity if not usability). Daytonas are very high and likely to get more so. 330 GTCs are about 100--too close to Daytonas w/o the grunt or the looks. A 250 PF coupe would do nicely.

GTC's are going for more than 100K these days, while PF's close in on Century mark. By the same token, since lovely PF's are oldest Ferrari one can get for less than 100K, there's still room for appreciation.

David, you agreed too quickly. I think you knew you wanted to keep it before you created this thread. :)

Your 456 is gorgeous, I wish I had stuck around and taken a closer look!

If you redo the interior by all means don't buy new leather, recolor yours with Leatherique or whomever. I did and you can't tell it from new. (Almost);)

Just don't SOAK the seats. There's a thread on that laying around somewhere...
