Test drove a Nero/Sabia FF today nicely specced with panoramic roof etc - simply stunning , I also think the car looks fantastic, which I know not everyone agrees with.

My quandry is thus - I currently have a fantastic 2014 458 spider , but , as much as I would love to have both, the reality is that if the FF comes the 458 goes :0(.

I really am torn , love the usability of the FF - would use it as a DD, also love the 458 as a weekend toy -It looks great in the garage but I've only done 1000miles in the last 6 months and haven't driven the car for nigh on 6 weeks. When I am driving the 458 I absolutely adore it! As much as I tell myself to use the 458 in all weathers I just can't bring myself to do so and living in the UK there are plenty of crappy weather days !!

I'm about 60:40 in favour of trading for the FF - will I regret it??

    cheers,Bob.

ps.perhaps I should pose this question on the 458/488 page as well to see how the response differs!!

u must simply get the FF.

Nothing else, dont post anything else anywhere else.

Say bye to the 458, get the FF, drive it daily, enjoy paradise

Tough call! I've had both and they are great but different experiences- sounds like you haven't driven the 458 much so anticipated greater usage would win the vote to me at least... Good problems to ponder anyways!

Considering your location (crappy weather and problematic roads) and your desire to drive performance car as much as possible I would say FF is perfect choice for you.

u will not regret it at all....the usability and functionality of the FF will drastically overcome the looks of the 458. the driving experience is equally thrilling - I had a 458 before I got my FF and it was by far worth it

The fact that you have narrowed your choice to two Ferraris means that your main desire is for a large dose of hooliganism in your car.

No doubt the 458 delivers that. The only question is, does the FF take enough of the edge off that you'll end up wondering if all the "Ferrari" has gone out of your experience?

I personally don't think so, but I think there are those for whom this dilemma is very real when it comes to the FF.

I don't have a 458, but do have a 430 Scuderia. I also have an FF that is my DD. If I had to choose one, I would choose to keep the Scuderia. While the FF is an incredible car, and I would always miss it, I think there are other closer replacements for it than there are for my Scuderia.

Having said this, this type of decision must be totally based on one's personal tastes, position in life, and a host of other factors.

Can you tell us what car in particular you have in mind that could replace FF as ultra-performance DD?

It depends on what other cars you have. Plus posting in the ff section will skew the answers. The FF sounds amazing and is the best gt car with much more versatility. Can't beat the v12 but the 458 will give you a sharper burst in a shorter period.

seems to me that the F12 is the best solution.. the FF is amazing but if I had to choose between the 458 and FF it would be the 458 ..

With children is an easy decision.
Sport practices, including the family on the entire experience.
    All weather capabilities.
As a daily use supercar for all practical things there is no competition.
I had my doubts in the beginning, not anymore.
There are multiple threads on this topic.
All the best on your decision.

We have kept the FF throughout having and trading a 458, an F12 and now the Speciale. Actually just traded the FF towards a new one - at 3 years, it was time for an extended warranty and we got a great deal on a trade and new one....

Your challenge is that the FF and 458 are very different. Great cars both, but different. Very different. We have 2 kids, my wife uses the car a LOT, the FF is practical, drives phenomenally well, has a LOT of performance (it's very Jekyll/Hyde).

The 458 is a weapon - it's an absolutely amazing driving car. It's less practical, but it's designed that way. Can be a great DD, but it is what it is.

My view - as a devoted FF fan and owner - it would be hard to replace the 458 experience. If you value/enjoy that, keep it. The FF is astonishingly good, but you could substitute an RS6, an AMG estate, a BMW X5M, et al. Nowhere as fun or good as the FF, but good enough.

My take: when you use something every day it loses some of its specialness. It just becomes more a part of your life and that makes it a bit ordinary. Whereas a car like the 458, since its not used all the time, it is always an event and experience. To me, a Ferrari should be special. Always. I tried an FF out and I wasn't really in love with it. From my perspective it just didn't do the daily driver things as well as the usual suspects do, and the specialness I look for wasn't quite there- I also felt the AWD coming in and I found it annoying and distracting. Also, I go too many places where I can not really show up in a Ferrari. I much prefer the 458 but then again its not quite my daily driver. I do drive the 458 almost daily when the weather improves. I really love the 458.

That said- only you can know how you relate to these things. I am just sharing my take.

I have both and could not give up the 458 so easily. The FF is great, more torque, more power, more comfort and more usable in all weather conditions.

However.... The 458 is lighter, nimble, quicker overall feeling (not faster) has an amazing sound that is not comparable to the v12 but equally as impressive and exciting. Here on the autobahn I'd rather drive the 458 200mph. The brakes are not even comparable between the two cars and the handling goes to the 458 all day. Don't forget better fuel economy lol.

Comfort and cargo space to the FF hands down.

They are two completely different cars. I love having both. Normally I DD the FF but today I took the 458 and really enjoyed it over 140 km of running around

If one had to go, I'm not sure which it'd be.

I also have both and if push came to shove I would sell the 458. The reason is simply that I drive the FF so much more. And whereas the 458 always give a thrilling experience, so does the FF in a different way. Once again it is simply a matter of hours logged enjoying the best in the world.

I did not mean to say any other car could replace the FF. I love my FF, and don't know of any car that could replace it. But I also don't know of any that could replace my Scud. Given my tastes, I could come closer to replacing what I get from the FF than I could to replacing what I get from my Scud. For me, keeping the FF would not be the decision I would make, as difficult as that decision would be.

Tireman - your post pretty much summed up my reasons for changing - been in with the dealer this morning on the way to the airport - deal done !
I love the anticipation of the new car arriving when we get back from overseas :0)

This is the problem when you have young kids. When they get old enough to drive, just buy each of them a GT3 and tell them to drive themselves! :)
