O.K everyone, I need help, BAD!

I have an 8 year old niece that I'm clueless what to get her for Christmas. I live in Dallas and she is up in Chicago, so I don't get to see her too much. I don't really know what the cool things for kids are these days, as I have none of my own. My family has set a $50 limit on gifts this year, but this is my one and only niece, and God Daughter, and I not too worried about spending a little bit more. From looking at the thread Let's See All the Beautiful Kids & Ferraris, I know a lot of you have young kids, specifically, girls in the 7-8 year old range! If anyone can help, it's this crew! What are 8 years old girls into this year? I asked her Mom (my sister), and to no surprise she is helpless to me! You would think they don't live together, jeeze! Thanks to all, in advance!

Three of my nieces have Nintendo DS's. So if she has something like that then maybe a game or two?

I have an 8 year old niece too... she loves her Nintendo DS. She also loves "webkins" and the associated crap that goes along with it.

One thing I often do is go to Amazon, and you can narrow the toys list by age and gender... so go to their site and see what the top sellers are for girls between 7 and 10 yrs... that ought to give you a good idea.

I've tried that, and it usually just gets me more confused! I'm going to try it again, and look more into webkins. I remember hearing everyone mention those before. Thanks!

Talk to your sibling and find out what's 'cool' to her now.

Very, very thoughtful on your behalf.

That's a fantastic age to encourage and elevate one's artistic skills - get her a nice "artist's" kit, comprised of quality pencils and paper.

Though it might be best to start with a style of pencil called "Progresso Pencils" for her small hands - those are for more of a "wash" effect.

These are high quality "watercolor" pencils - the range is stunning - this is the 60 pack, though smaller sets are available

Whatever "set" you go with, best to go to an Art Store, get inspired and confused, but, get the ball rolling.

Piece of cake! Ask her to bust out a list to Santa. She can pass it to dad who will mail it to Santa (you). BINGO! Problem solved.

This is a heck of the idea! This year, I'm under the gun, but next year, it's going to happen! That's awesome!

MrPBody and Wax... thanks for the links. I should have thought of that. She loves to draw and sketch. As a matter of fact her and her brother are always fighting over his art materials. I ended up picking up both the items you two posted a long with some other "stuff". I know she'll love it! Of course if she doesn't..... I also got her the Hannah Montana Wii game and the Disney Sing It Game w/ microphone for the Wii as well. I went a little over the $50 limit on her, but what can I say....

    Thank you everyone!!!!!!
