    Hi all!

I am looking into buying a 355 Challenge.
It's purely going to be raced, and it has to be a 1995 model.
The reason it has to be a 1995 model is because of a "15 year or older" rule in the racing series I race in.
Obviously, this car is going to be raced from 2010 season.

What is the most important things to look out for besides the obvious?
I have mild experience with amateur racing, in my 7th season this year.

And if you know of a good 1995 Challenge, or have own who might be up for sale, I can be contacted by mail or PM
Interested in good condition race cars.

It might help you get an answer if you advise your location : for example in Europe I may know of a LHD car in the UK

    Hi greyboxer.
    Thank you for your reply.
I am located in Norway, so UK would be a perfect location to buy a car, you can send me details in a PM.
LHD or RHD doesn't really matter, I have raced both types.

I did buy in 2005 and still have the car -so here goes:

Accident history and repair history. If its not documented through your purchase date, forget about it. So clearly a car with histroy including accidents is going to be better than one about which the owner professes but cannot prove. Check ground clearance at all 4 corners. Variations could indicate bad repairs or very poor set up.

Last belt service tells a lot. What was replaced and why.

Engine mounts; Headers/manifolds; Shock actuators; Spring and roll bar sizes; What safety gear is installed, how old and whether you will be able to use that spec for your planned use?

Usual leak down and compression tests; oil sample and coolant sample.

Check ths stae of the two cooling fans, any rattles indocate imminent failure as the blades are not square on the fan spindles.

Wheels - can you buy spares. No one can go racing or do DE events without 2 sets. If you can get spare rears they are more valuable as the wear rate is nearly 3:1 between rears and fronts with track use.

Check brake rotors for cracks. Drilled rotors are not a good idea for a track car and they develop cracks easily.

Ground effects are easily damaged by jacks.

Straight Challenge exhaust or muffler added - more power with the former.

Dyno test - you should see at least 305 hp at the wheels. Cannot tell you the metric #.

Engine Oil drain, not the tank, condition of the thread.

Battery moved to the centre of the boot.

    - that's about all I can think of right now
