What should I pay for this car in todays market and feel good about it? Daytona-Nero with Sabia interior with black inserts. MSRP was $315K, this was a early 07 car without Carbon brakes.

    Thank you for your help....

No carbon brakes? I believe that's a negative and seller may have to accept a lower premium.

Looks like premiums over MSRP will be between $150K for low mileage to $225K for new:
    http://www.dupontregistry.com/autos/Search/DRauSearchResults.aspx?sorttype=1&makeid=31&makename=Ferrari&modelid=38&modelname=599%20GTB
    http://www.globalautosports.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=search_cars&f_model_id=268&f_came_from=make

In May 2007 I paid $225K premium over MSRP for a new/loaded F599 GTB from a Calabasas, CA (half hour northwest of L.A.) showroom floor. Two weeks later the same dealer sold another newly arrived F599 to a movie celebrity for (I think) the same price. Here we are seven months later and quotes for new ones don't seem to have changed.

However, consider this interesting observation. My F599 went to "Ferrari heaven" (a ME-IMBECILE story). I loved that car, it was absolutely beautiful and comfortable. But, I was not interested in paying a premium again to replace it with another F599! Been there... done that... and replaced it instead with a MB SLR McLaren Roadster... WITHOUT paying a premium!!! Hearsay is that an acquaintance of mine who also lives in Ventura county recently put his F599 for sale and is replacing it with a F430 Scuderia that's on order. I know those are only two examples, but could we be seeing the beginning of a trend? Is the "been there done that" feeling stronger than the will to keep owning the F599? If so, owners who paid huge premiums may want to begin selling their F599s. Besides, there are now a lot more similar looking 612s running around that it's making the 599s not so unique looking anymore... I'm just wondering if premiums will be much less in another six to twelve months.

Maybe my previous post didn't really answer your question properly. How about this: For an early 2007 model, no carbon brakes, 300 miles, assume "like new", I'd say pay no more than $150K premium over MSRP. This may satisfy your "feel good about it" criteria. How much premium one can tolerate is really about how badly the buyer wants to own the car "now" and whether or not he/she can utter the phrase "money is no object" without flinching. Me? Although I absolutely love the F599, I would not want to pay a premium. But then, I am a "been there done that" story and I can be accused of having once paid... $225K over MSRP!

And here's the best untold part of the story: After more than 3500 miles of total blissful ownership, I received more from my insurance than what I originally paid for the F599 (because they could NOT find me a comparable replacement... no stock anywhere at the time!)

Hope that helps - Tao (ex Tao599)

    Thanks Tao,

How do you compare the SLR to the 599? Both performance and quality..

After several months RTGT still appear to have their low mileage silver 599 in stock. Perhaps because it has the steel brakes?

I'd hope so. Paying almost twice over MSRP for a car that new is quite ridiculous IMO :)

Well, the price trend is down, but it is too early to say how steep. If you are looking for opinions I would say $425 to $450 transaction price (not asking price). If you drive it, the first 3000 miles on the car will cause some pretty big depreciation if you go to sell it in two years or so.

I guess mine at 6,000 miles is pretty worthless :)

The pleasure value of that mileage is waaaay more than money can buy!

Tao, this seems a little non-standard...or maybe my time away in Asia has clouded my memory. Is it routine for insurers of higher-end modern exotics to pay out above-MSRP (ie, prevailing market prices) in the event of a claim? Your comments don't seem to suggest an "insured value" policy, but rather an "equivalent value" payout, so I'm curious to how insurers think about this. PM me if you'd like.

    Thanks.

Vic, E-mail sent with details. I cannot praise AAA (Auto Club California) enough for how I was treated as a client and how my claim was handled!

Matt and Peter, I didn't know what to expect from the SLR Roadster until I actually drove it around for a while. The performance stats for the F599 and SLR are similar, the quality of both are terrific IMHO and I can honestly say that I love them both. They each have their own personality, beauty, style, driving feel and fan club. The SLR body/shell is all carbon fiber and for bigger people the F599 is roomier and more comfortable. I'm so fortunate to have had super fun with both of them and I'm one of those who'll put miles on my cars i.e. the F599 ended up with 3500 miles in no time and in 6 weeks the SLR Roadster has already racked up 2500 miles... Since I'm not the kind of guy who likes to take his car to the track, I've admitted to enjoying the SLR Roadster more. However, I would not have bought a SLR Coupe. I don't think I would have enjoyed it like I do the Roadster. I love the open air (sides and back visibility are a bit restrictive with the top up), really love the hot rod sound (is it my age?), love the smooth transmission etc. And what might invite flaming replies, the German engineering gives me that no-worry feeling when I want to take the car for a long distance trip! A final comment, maybe a good looking F599 Spider would temp me back.

So paying $400K for the above mentioned 599 that MSRP'd for $315 would be a solid deal??

Yes that is the 599 with the steel brakes. Thank you for the price details. The silver on tan is quite rare in North America. Some silver cars in Europe but none I remember seeing from FNA for the 599. Mostly red or black 599 models. I wonder if the silver color also slowed the search for a new owner?

Yes. Same situation in German market. Bestseller in 599 GTB market are Red cars, then goes Black Daytona and Grigio Silverstone colors, but even two last colors are harder to sell than Red ones, especially Rosso Corsa. But in Germany there were some ready to go from the floor for huge premium White (Bianco Avus) 599 GTB and just flied away from the floor, but I guess that in the US White is not the best F-car to hold its resale value. Best.

It seems like a lot of these cars are Silverstone, since it was a farily new color at the time of the 599 introduction. I think the same thing happened with the 550 and 575M; a lot of grigio titanio cars can be seen now from that era and may not be as desirable retrospectively, I don't know.

Red and black, on the other hand, are classics always.

Love my Silverstone 599 - I generally like the 599 in darker colors for some reason - totally subjective, however.
