Hey guys. I'm looking to upgrade my current phone to probably either a Palm 650 or a Motorola Razr V3i. I still have yet to decide on whether or not I need a PDA phone, although I am now flying back and forth between Cleveland and Boston every two weeks. Anyone want to help me decide?

If I decide that I don't need a PDA, I'm basically set on the V3i. Any comments on the phone anyone?

However, If I do need a PDA phone, I used to be set on the treo 650. Now I wonder if it is better to wait for the 750p on Cingular, or just buy the 650 now?

Thanks for the help guys, I appreciate any input you can give me.

Just replaced my razr with a Q and would never go back!

I should mention, "replace" isn't the exact right word... I still have the V3 for weekend use and forward the phones back and forth...

If you need a PDA-type phone, I wouldn't look at anything else. So flexible and very easy to learn/use with it's Windows base.

Oh... sorry. I'm not familiar with US carriers/available phones. I was told that the Q should be available on other networks by January... probably too late though.

    Good luck!

I would love a PDA phone, but I could not afford the bill :-(. I wait for the blackberry peal (8100,) which is awesome and will be released on Cingular soon. The Treo is a serious PDA phone, its awesome with features. I would get the Treo as a serious phone, the blackberry does the job but not as well as the Treo.

As for regular phones, the Samsung D807 I believe...the slim slider...is awesome. If you want something with a blazing fast 3g connection and overall quality, the LG CU300 I believe it really good. Its LG's top model on cingular right now.

Never buy a Razr. They suck. Had it, got rid of it.

I have a razr now actually....no problems except dust getting behind the screen, which may hold me off from getting another one. I fear that the V3i is too much like my current phone, and I won't feel that I have something new.

Does anyone have the Treo 650? Comments of the phone? Should I wait for the new version, or am I fine with this one?

Watch out with the Razr. Mine shows water damage (the little white dot inside the battery cover is red) even though it has never been in the pool, toilet or rain. I keep in in my shirt pocket and assume that high humidity levels here in Michigan the summer triggered the H2O sensor, so good-bye warranty :(

I finally upgraded from my anchient samsung (non flip) it finally broke. I have no idea how many times I dropped that thing. And the dog chewed on it to. Nice simple rugged little phone. My new phone is a samsung also but this time a fliphone with camera..640x480 resolution though :( think I'll still bring along my point and shoot compact camera (7mp)

Looked at the razr, pebbel, etc. seems like a waste. Got my new phone for free as an upgrade and bought two others for family for 20 bucks each

I'm a Verizon sales rep so I have quite a bit of experience with the Treo 650 as well as the Razor. I'm not sure of all of Cingulars PDA lineup but I can tell you that the Razors are extremely overhyped in my opinion. When the phone initially debuted Verizon waited to pick it up and see how they did. The only reason I can honestly say get a Razor is if you must have a thin phone. Period. Battery life on is pretty low due to the small design combined with the large power drawig screen. We eventually got them but the main complaint is talk time being weak and how they don't stay charged. I hear it all day everyday.

I do give Cingular credit for good marketing but that's it. The Treo lines are great sellers. The 650 we carry is fairly outdated and I imagine that it's got to be the same model at Cingular. We now carry the 2 different models of the 700...one has Palm software and the other has Windows. Either one works well and it boils down to your personal preference of software.

I carry the Chocolate as well and I love the phone. Just as I was about to buy a Ipod we dropped this phone on the market. I had to sell 10 and they gave me one and I don't ever want another phone. My 2 gig memory card holds up to 400 mp3's and it is pretty small. The touch screen takes a minute to get used to but once your used to it the phone is great.

If you find a phone you really like or anyone else on here for that matter PM me and I'll let you know the scoop. If you can get out of your contract you can port your number to Verizon for free. Good luck and let me know what you end up choosing.

RAZR talk time sucks and if you drop it you're screwed......broken glass screens are very common, among other things.......it's a "look at me I have a small penis poser phone" IMHO......all these new phones and PDA's (penis dimension accessories) are nothing but crap.....pure and unadulterated.

Seems like the "Queer Eye" team overtook worldwide phone design.......

Give me a small, very compact phone with a send and end button.....that's it......stick your camera phones up your ass (heh...it's been done before apparently smuggling phones into prisons) and the ability to be dropped 1000 times in a year and still work and have a talk time of 5 days on one charge and I'm in.

    Hellomoto.........are you f-in listening ?

Second this. I wish Motorola still made equipment for people who just want a mobile PHONE.

The best phone I ever owned was the black plastic Motorola Startac. The thing was a tank.

I have had multiple RAZRs and now SLVRs and while they have been good phones for me, they are not without fault. My biggest gripe is they are not as resistant to damage as the older Motorolas.

Someone should make a phone for those of us who just want a phone. Hell, I'd gladly pay $1000 to have my old Startac back and have it work on the GSM network.

I have a 36 month contract that is up in 2 months.......was looking at phones the other day......each and every single one of them had cameras, made coffee and doubled as a portable iron. Each one looked like it would last about 2 weeks in the real world........and everything was $200+.

Having said that you may wonder why cost is important, well when you renew your contract you get a free phone, or a discounted one, but these things usually need to be replaced due to damage once or twice every 2-3 years if you are a heavy user. And that replacement you have to pay for out of your own pocket. It totally pissed me off to have to shell out $200 for the cheapest phone, which had all the superficial crap which I never use, nor for that matter, does anyone else that I know of.

I miss my old Nokia.....you could play baseball with it, if fit in your pocket, and it had none of the junk the current crop of product does.

Yep those little dots are BS! They will turn red without a drop of water hitting the phone. Its just an ingenious design for them to not have to replace ****ty phones anymore!

Bingo! I feel the same way. I think that most of the phones out currently are geared towards kids who's parents foot the bill.

My needs in a cellular phone.
    1. good reception and volume.
    2. durability
    3. reasonably small

    That's it!

Camera? No thanks, I allready have a camera that functions fine as a camera.

Games? Nope, don't need that either. When I have the time to play games I don't want to do it on my phone.

    Video? See above.

PDA functions? Nope, that's why I have a secretary.

Intergalactic GPS map of the universe? Nope, scratch that too.
