I have heard you should get rid of the factory quick disconnect ground cable. I can do that. Is there a ground cable available that works well as a replacement? My battery is in the back.

You can purchase made-up battery cables in popular lengths at most auto parts stores. Just tell them how long your old cable is, and buy one that isn't too short. There should be a cable from the battery to the frame, and from the frame to the engine/transmission.

Or, if your cable is in good condition but you simply want to remove the quick-disconnect fitting, you can purchase a splice and have it staked on, and cover the splice with a good heat-shrink covering.
