This girl that I've recently started dating invited me to her sisters wedding. I haven't been to one since I was about 6 and don't have the slightest idea of what to wear. Obviously my first inclination was the powder blue tux, but she axed that right away. I'm now out of ideas. It's a daytime wedding (4pm) if that makes any difference. Suggestions? Thanks.

Slacks, dress shirt, tie and sport coat. Or ditch the tie if it's not
a formal setting and replace with a boa :D

[edit] or how about a KILT??? :D

Definitely! It says, "I'm formal, but I'm here to party."

Haha, well it's her sister, but she's marrying a buddy that I used to play hockey with so there'll be plenty of friends there. Under any other circumstances, you'd be right and I'd run...

Yeah, Casual yet dressed up enough to be in the "Oh so important" family pictures.

You don't want them to think twice about them.

Do NOT listen to these guys for fashion advice!

Go here - it has all you need

If you're comfortable in your heterosexuality, go for the "SIEGEL’S® TONAL STRIPE", capped off with the "ULTIMATE MENS TOPCOAT".

Don't forget a hat and cane!

Depends on the crowd. If white collar, dress up. If blue collar, go 'almost' biz casual so you do not feel over dressed. If it's a bunch of rednecks, just wear shorts and a ballcap (shirt optional) and watch out for the bride to do something like this "D

In all honesty, you're going to have to go with a dark suit, light shirt (white if possible... cufflinks if you can) and black shoes/belt. DO NOT make the mistake I made of wearing tan shoes. I personally think I was the best dressed person at the wedding I attended a couple of weeks back (all the tuxedos were altered so poorly), but I ruined every picture I was in.

I'll go ahead and point out the obvious here. Ask your girlfriend. Her opinion is really the one that's going to count and she'll know how people will be dressed at this wedding. You don't want to be the under-dressed guy in khakis and a polo, but you also don't want to be the dork in french cuffs.

If that's not an option, I agree that the tuxedo tee and mullet are standard fare in any proper St. Louis area wedding. For additional tips, watch as many episodes of My Big Redneck Wedding as possible. Lots of quality material in those shows that is sure to please even the most discriminating wedding party.

You really want to *avoid* being in the family picture, at this stage. :p

Master the art of disappearing. The theme is "gray". (Or, for an outdoor wedding, cammo.) ;)

... and shun the fruminous match-making aunts. :D

Ok how about this: Black suit, light blue shirt, and the tie is the question. I was looking at a tie that was wide striped and had the blue from my shirt, black and a darker blue, but my friend is telling me that that she thinks I should find a tie with a different texture, but the same color as the shirt. So black suit, solid light blue shirt and solid light blue satin tie. Discuss...

Wearing black and blue together is a faux-pas. A black suit (formal) should almost exclusively be worn with a white shirt.

+1. plus its easier (at least in my opinion) to pull off the no-tie look with a white shirt than a blue one.

did you ask the gf her opinion/advice?
