Wow...hombre...you have issues. Try and do an Einsteinian thought experiment. Imagine society said to the Police, "Ok, forget it, stop enforcing traffic laws.". How long before total chaos out on the roads? How long before drunks, and drug addicts, and 16 year olds racing, and other angry jerks bring the level of violence on the roads to the point it was unsafe to leave your driveway? Imagine the accidents, the road rage. I would be willing to bet that "driving" would become the leading cause of death very quickly. You are not a hero, you are not a warrior behind your keyboard. My guess is you'd be very scared every day driving to work. I am not a LEO, or even have any LEO friends, but I can certainly appreciate those that are. The risks they take every day, putting their lives on the line for you. If you are being chased by a mad man weilding a butcher knife, there is only 1 person who is going to risk his life for you a total stranger, and it isn't me ( I have kids who need me more than you do), it will be a LEO who will jump into that scene to try and save you and risk everything in the process. Yep, you're right after all, he is a psychopath for doing that. Drive safely, have some fun and push the limits a little every now and then, be a good citizen, and stop your whining.
I WANT ONE OF THOSE!!!!! That would be the best shirt! CRCS, sorry to hear about all of the hate. Wow. You're right though. We are all sociopaths in law enforcement. When I won my 2 life saving awards, shhhhhhhhh, I really wanted the people to die. Don't tell anyone. And today, I'm doing lock down drills at 4 schools in my town to teach the kids what to do if a Columbine type incident happens. But, shhhhhhhhhh, I really hope the kids screw it up. Oh yeah, when you see me running radar in the construction zone on Butterfield Road next to the girl with the stop sign, you'll probably see her say thanks for watching out for them again. That's a ploy, she is really hoping that I make the city some money not protect her and her guys from the aholes flying by them at 55 within inches of them digging a hole. But, hey, you got us figured out and knew all of this. Great job! You really are smarter than the rest of us.
I'm not going to get into it too deep with this argument, but I will say this.... Traffic cops are 1000% REQUIRED on our streets. The only thing stopping that road-rage filled soccer-mom in her Dodge Caravan from doing completely unsafe speeds is the fear of getting a ticket. We don't have to worry nearly as much about supercars speeding as we do the people who own cars that they really don't care about. Look at all the speeders we have now, weaving in and out of rush hour traffic in a VW Jetta or a big ass lifted truck. Imagine if people didn't have that fear of getting caught in the back of their minds, it would be complete anarchy. I wouldn't even want to own a Ferrari at that point, I'd be too worried about some 50% of the *******s driving on the highway doing double the speed limit and taking me out. 99.99999999% of the time, as long as you aren't breaking any laws, you have nothing to worry about. In a Ferrari, you might get pulled over occasionally, so what, minor inconvenience at best. For the record, I was hassled *ENDLESSLY* by local cops. I was a 16-20yr old kid driving his dad's Ferrari 355. There was one point where I was pulled over 3 times by 5 different cops (driving through different towns) in a 2hr time period for doing absolutely nothing. Just to check my registration, insurance, license, and sobriety. Seriously, I never sped in that car unless it was at the track or in the middle of nowhere with no one around. I had a huge target on my back, and I couldn't afford to speed on the freeway or anywhere near a city.
The vast number of Police are honorable and doing a very important and difficult job. Of course there are bad cops as there are bad everything's. Personally I believe that bad cops are as repellant to the average LEO as they are to me. I made a movie about bad cops Shakedown/Blue Jean Cop and the Cops that worked on it certainly had no problem with working on it and as always were very helpful. (NY PD Film Bureau) Traffic stops often uncover very serious criminals and unfortunately sometimes these stops can get very dangerous quickly so it's not surprising that LEO's might be a bit wary when pulling anyone over. Simple common sense can help. Always showing your hands, remaining calm, and being friendly is never a bad idea in practically any situation. I drive without front plates on some of my cars. I realize that may subject me to being pulled over. I'm the one that made the decision to take that risk and always act accordingly. I not the officier didn't put on a front plate.
You are using fear and doomsday scenarios instead of facts and reason. Peer pressure and a set of common values keeps society inline not police(why Germans can have high speed highways that are safe). You go to a restaurant and are served food before you pay, why don't you just leave afterwards? There is no police guarding the place. Peer pressure and common values ensure people pay, NOT coercion. The same thing would apply to the roads, in a civilized society people would obey what is considered safe. Of course you would have the bad apples, those driving dangerously etc. But police are more often then not ticketing regular citizens, or imposing undue economic hardships on others. Don't make up fear factor scenarios as justification. You aren't understanding my point. I am not against lack of police, I am against police that are out(maybe even with good intentions) as another form of revenue collection. This isn't a conspiracy, its been admitted and caught on tape by many departments and governments. People should stop making excuses for it.
Interesting, in your post you admit to being harassed for *NO REASON*. I thought its suppose to be a free society and police on the look out for bad apples?. You were bothered by 5 *different* police in 2 hours, all for nothing but enjoying yourself? Better to keep the car garaged, having fun is not allowed. Yet you justify this because of the raging soccer moms in caravans? Maybe they should create a special soccer mom unit. I explained in an earlier post, society is held together by peer pressure and common societal values not laws. You will always have bad apples on the road, but by your own example police were more interested in finding a reason to punish you for having a flashy car. All the examples people are posting are just proving my points.
My situation was out of the ordinary, even for me, but yes, I did get pulled over quite often when I drove my father's cars. To me it was apparent that there wasn't any justified reason for them to pull me over, but for all I know, they may have had a reason. Young kids in a car worth more than their house driving around at 10pm-12am....irresponsible rich kids....drunk? Drug dealers? Stole it? Etc, etc. The point is, I never let it bother me. Not sure why you let it get to you so much. Oh, and it's a common societal value not to endanger the lives of other people. But the problem is, there are a TON of *very very stupid* people out there who don't understand that going 85 in a 60 through heavy traffic is indeed endangering lives. Many people are curbed from this behavior simply due to the fact that they are worried about being caught. That creates safer streets for all of us.
I'm glad that movie was made, and I'm glad you have the backbone to "break the law" over something that is illogical in the first place(probably from being old-school). My original point was if so many people weren't as submissive, a lot of these laws would go away as no one would pay attention to them(ie prohibition during 30's). Police have gone from your friendly beat cop to almost military like units feeding on fear and intimidation over the span of 50 years. I used to be an idealist and think its only a few bad cops and the rest are out doing good. But are they really doing good? Most of the prisons are packed with people who were caught doing * victim-less* crimes. Serious criminals ie violent make up very small % of the overall offenses. Its amazing how something as silly as traffic tickets have become a cottage industry in most states. Now the police are like any other group with their special interests, the problem is they have a monopoly on force and violence with no real checks and balance(no competition) Add a gigantic amount of money into the mix(ticket revenue). So this is why we constantly hear of them getting out of control and no punitive action being taken. It's only going to get worse. On the traffic stops. Well these days police are trained to treat everyone as a potential drug dealer or terrorist. So you can imagine the built up tension a cop already has during a traffic stop, coupled with a gun + intimidation this can quickly lead out of hand. I'm curious to how many traffic stops were violent in the 50's compared to today. You are correct, being calm ensures you won't end up tasered to death these days(I've said I don't bother engaging in a discussions or showing any attitude to them). Are most cops good? Sure, they very well may have good intentions, I don't think that is being denied. Most are merely following orders trusting in the superiors. But intentions and actual results are 2 very different things.
Thank you for your comments. It makes my day when someone recognizes us for this. My own brother once had the balls to question how much money money I made the previous year (thanks to the local paper publishing mine and other government worker's salaries). I'll say the same thing to our laptop tough guy here that I said to him, "When is the last time you had to put on a bulletproof vest to go to work?". Just my final $.02 in this thread.
I work with LEO's every day and they are as a whole, honest, decent people that do the right thing. They also understand people and human nature probably better than ahy other profession. Given there are times when a municipality will be agruably over zealous with speed traps, etc. These are far and in-between. The reason that you are being pulled over is because you were probably speeding. *duh* If you are a 16 year old in a 355... come on of course you're going to get pulled over! ;-) Did you steal it? It's like a scrubby dressed guy walking down the street in a million dollar hood'. Out of place. Does your dad know you're out in it, how many kids get killed driving a high performance car? Yes LEO's are there on the scene afterward.. Our cars can do triple the posted limits and will far outhandle and outperform most cars on the road. LEO's know this and in my experience, if you are honest and acknowledge that you were wrong rather than BS-ing your way then you'll be better off. If you were pulled over for no reason what-so-ever, state that as well. The system works. crcs, been to ontario and my experience is Canadians, as people, give alot of power to their government. Canadian people are the ones who can take that away if it is being misused.
They need it as a radar target, brudda! I have had the most "notice" from DPS out on the highway, or on some weekends HPD will be in the Uturn lanes in town, shooting them like fish in a barrel!!!
Naw, man....you go to Autozone for nice frame, get some three inch drywall 'grabbers" and screw that baby right there, in the middle! 12" AFF is the guideline... Cars don't have feelings.
Amanda is running around on expired Dealer Tags, and no front either (although the mount and frame is there) I told her to "park it" and get her azz the the Library and study!!! It's a lot of money for the first one (out of State purchase)
WRONG! See post above.... On many modern cars..plastic materials and the metal radiator reclined in mounting, it GREATLY improves the target for radar speed enforcment. Nobody is a 'beat dog' here, brudda!
Very well stated....bravo.. I have a "100 Club" emblem in one corner of the rear windshield, a "4th Man Foundation" in the other, on EVERY Ferrari (and the 'common' vehicles as well)... It seems to start things off on the right foot. No "Get Out of Jail" card, certainly.
Dude, let me tell you something....you are full of ****. I build prisons, I maintain prisons. They are full of murderers, rapists, drug runners, gang members, pimps and thieves and worse. There is no one in there for "no front plate" or a "victimless crime". I don't use "ignore" here, I just call it like I see it. You sound like an idiot, (stay 'mute' during a stop, really??) and I think you have a real case of paranoia as well. You should really see a doctor....seriously. I had a wierd dream last night the toilet backed up and I filled a five gallon bucket with the contents of the sewer, I had to get the proper shovel (square tip) from the tool rack. Pretty accurate premonition to this discussion, eh?? Your posts in this thread (and you sound rather intelligent in Business and Investments) sound like a twelve year old ...
Maybe one of our LEO memebrs can recap the number of officers, left dead in the road. Since back in those "peaceful '50s"....(how old are you?) I think Texas recognized two in a ceremony last month, for last year alone, in this State. ONe DPS officer and one County Sheriff ... R.I.P., we have a undelcared War Zone here with the narco traffic and human smuggling.
BigTex Seems the only people chiming into my comments are government employees(public defenders), police officers and of course someone who has a vested interest in prisons. Sir, Sorry to outline facts to you but the majority of the prison population is none violent offenders. One of the cops on here even said they check up on existing arrest warrants issued over traffic tickets. http://www.hawaii.edu/hivandaids/America_s_One_Million_Nonviolent_Prisoners.pdf This is from 1999, its a fantastic read. About your narco war. Apples and bowling balls. I stated numerous times, how about police be courteous to us taxpayers financing their extremely overpaid salaries(can hire private contractors to watch the highways for a fraction of the cost of a cop and with 10x the gratitude), and concentrate on actual threats to the public. There are much more serious issues as you pointed out narco/human smuggling then copper sitting around radaring granny with a heavy foot. Or driving around pulling over Ferrari's. People should not be making excuses for police. Its unbelievable that police these days are equipped and trained like some sort of gestapo/military unit right up to the haircuts. I'm reading where police departments are now ordering tanks. Locally these bozos are getting new cars and SUVs almost every 2 years, private gas stations hidden behind their stations and secret budgets unavailable to the public. These guys need to stop taking themselves so seriously. It must be a Texas thing worshiping the law. On the officer deaths. You know its always sad when life is lost for no reason, and my reference was to how many cops are dieing today vs 50 years ago. I believe but could be mistaken today's numbers are MUCH higher. The general public is becoming more and more agitated with the conduct of law enforcement. Its almost weekly we also here of police going out and killing random civilians with tasers, guns, cop cars all from being overly aggressive(and roided up). I don't even want to get into the topic of police unions refusing drug and alcohol testing on officers. Are you aware that per capita police officers have a higher drinking driving rate then the general public? But that's the victims fault right? The law is the law, Texas Ranger style.
CRCS Your opinions about cops and society is now verging on P&R. I strongly suggest you move on before further action is taken. Forum Traffic Cop
