Yes. Very fortunate. I actually got pulled over by two cars (dude called for back up) and my first thought was that I am going to really get it. Anyways, it's a long story that has been told and repeated here a couple of times.

Funny enough, this was Monterey Week and I was late getting to get together hosted by Jim, a couple of days before he unveiled the P4/5. I could not have been the first Ferrari they got that day.

Funny enough, one or two years later was the F40 anniversary where we all got to drive our F40's on Laguna Seca in the middle of the historic races (met some great Fchatters there). I drove very slowly getting to Monterey but sure enough, I got pulled over during an early morning spirited drive on the PCH. I am not going to say that car attracts attention. More like that car makes me drive a little over the speed limit.

And not ot rehash the old stuff but I was especially petrified as a key part of the story is that I was doing 110 mph with a police officer on my bumper and then accelerated to 186 mph as his headlights slowly disappeared in my rear view mirror.

Trust me - I had no idea I was being tailgated by a cop. Anyone who's ever spent any time behind the wheel of an F40 can attest to the fact that you can have the entire CHP following you and not know it, especially at night.

I suppose that no one here will believe that I have never been pulled over by police, not in the Ferrari (which I've owned for 7-1/2 years) or in any other car that I've driven in 41 years behind the wheel.

And it's not that I drive slow; I just have figured out how fast one can drive in any situation without drawing undue attention to oneself. I do not believe in radar detectors or such devices or have had one in any car that I've owned. (The Ferrari had an old Escort in it, but I never used it and had it removed the first time I had the car serviced. The faceplate is still there, but only to cover up the hole in the dash that would result.)

I think my philosophy is similar to what Han Solo says when he tells Chewbacca to "fly casually". I don't find any need to drive insanely fast in order to get to my destination any faster; in fact I once calculated that if you travel 20 miles at 90 mph rather than at 70, you get to your destination only 4 minutes sooner. If you can't take 4 minutes longer to get to where you're going, you're a pretty poor planner of time usage!
