What type of paint to use

    I will soon be repainting my 73 246GT and wondered what type of paint should I use. I guess it would have been originally painted in cellulose but technology has moved on and so I am confused..

    What have you guys used when painting your cars? Should I stick with cellulose of use a more modern type of paint. I want it to look 'right' when it is finished.

    Currently the car is a light metallic blue, blue chiaro mettallizzato (but was originally red, rosso chiaro). I am undecided what colour to repaint it but I tend to think the original colour is usually the best choice, especially at current prices. Should I revert to the original colour or choose something else.

    That's your call Simon, I have just returned my car to Rosso Bordeaux 2 pack because that was the colour it left the factory so felt a sense of duty to return it back.

    I have known other dino owners to change the colour to one they like and it hasn't affected the price........but it could if prices continue to rise. Future owners are getting more fussy.

    The one thing that concerns me about returning to the original colour is that it will become just another red Dino.

    Now if it was currently red but was originally light blue metallic I would have no hesitation in returning to the original colour.......

    That is my exact problem. I feel a duty to return it to original but have a concern it will become just another red Dino.

    Now if it was originally light blue metallic and was now red I would have no problem returning it to original .....

    Paint it a colour you like, however I'd suggest one of the originally available Dino colours when your car was manufactured. Lots of discussion on this previously, personal choice as Tony says.
    I'd be more inclined to keep the original colour if the car had an interesting history which made it more collectible.

    Use a high quality modern paint, Glasurit etc..

    My 206 is now with the bodyshop and going from rosso chiaro (which I love) to rosso dino (which I hate), all because I feel a duty (with probably less than a hundred 206s left in the world) that it should be the same colour it was in 1968. I'm fully prepared to dislike it so much that I'll just stick it in the next RM Auction when it's finished, but at least it will be back to it's original colour.

    On the other hand, I may just love it when it looks all new again! :) Who knows...
