First of all, I searched but a thread like this didn't come up (maybe it was my fault). I thought this might get intresting, because we have a lot of people from different ages and backgrounds here. I'll start. I'm currently learning to drive in an old beat-up 1987 Nissan Micra, and couldn't be happier! No power steering, no anti-lock brakes, no electronic aids, not much power, but at least I'm learning to drive a car instead of a computer on wheels. I'll have time enough to do that later . Here's a picture:picture edit: I forgot to tell it's got a manual 4-speed gearbox.
1966 Ford Mustang coupe. I was the second owner of the car. There have been only two owners because the car is still in my garage. 28 years of ownership! Beat that!
'66 Mustang coupe. Restored it and sold it to get my '65 GT convertible. restored that one and still have it.
1982 Datsun Maxima diesel. 75 horsepower, top speed of around 82 mph. Lots of smoke and a friendly voice that says garbage like 'The door is a jar'! BT
1984 Chrysler Laser (got it when I was 16 in 1984) - car broke down more than I can tell you... it was a wonderful crap colored metallic brown (cool back then - really sad now 2nd car 1979 Porsche 911 SC Targa (black on tan) - got it when I was 20 and in college (still had the laser - which broke way more than the porsche... It was a big hit in college, everyone always borrowing it, etc - and frankly that darn porsche was my downfall into the sports/exotic car market - worse than cocaine - I been hooked ever since... On the topic - my wife gave me a really cool gift this Christmas. She worked with my parents on finding some of the sports cars - I have owned from the past and had photos that they could find - and made a 8X10 of each one for my office... We are still looking for a few that I know I have photos from - but are lost in a box somewhere... But have a nice little series of a dozen or so cars from the past... I thought that was a cool gift.
1964 VW Bug with no engine, and a Corvair Corsa 6 cylinder 4 carb with a broken transmission. I put the Corvair engine in the Bug when I was 15 and had it ready to run by the time I got my license at 16. Pretty fast Bug for it's time.
1987 Chevrolet Camapro Z-28 IROC; 305 C.I. with the Turbo 700-R4, metallic blue. I loved that car but as soon as it hit 60k miles it became a maintenance nightmare. That car was fast fast fast, but I never got a ticket or had any accidents.
1990 Toyota MR2 G Ltd (red hard top) It has even been on a couple of combined car club runs with the NZ FOC. The engine is in need of a rebuild at the moment. I got the car six years ago.
The first car that I was allowed to drive to H.S. was a 1976 puke green sedan de ville. Plenty of room for 6 guys and a bong. The first car I actually purchased with my own coins was a MB 190 2.6, I think in 1991?
I inherited a dodge dakota truck from my grandfather when I was fifteen and just got ride of it after three years of using it. He was the first owner I was the second. When it left my possesion (gave it to a family who needed it more than I did) it was pretty banged up. 107k miles after a rebuild (it was close to 200k then) and had been used for some serious work. Back window busted out and it had a bondo job my grandfather had done by some mexican guy (he was afraid the guy would hurt him if he didn't let him do it!) aCTUALLY kinda glad its gone. Handling was horrible! Trying to get an Alfa now but will probably end up with a ford/honda you know something practical. Even though I'll be paying with my own money my parents won't let me buy what I want
