My dad was the same, talked me out of a 246 to buy a house in the blue mountains, 246 had just been restored and was going for $25k, house cost just over $75k
When is he moving out to Australia to keep an eye on you and curtail your illegal habits ? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Gawd, I looked like a drowned rat that day - didn’t dry out the whole day till I got back to the motel.

He’s given up on the Idea, covid stopped all that, such a shame, they enjoy it here but your right, “have you sold that car yet ?, you should find a local bridge club, start enjoying cricket, we love the cricket”…

Wanted an Alfa GTV 1981 however hard a hard time driving the demo. Changed my mind and bought a Mazda RX7 the next day. 18 yo. Exactly the same as below candy apple green . Hated the brown interior though. Image Unavailable, Please Login
When I was at uni, one of my mates' girlfriend was turning 21, and her dad approached us and asked if he should get her an Alfa Sprint, or an RX-7. We said get the Alfa, because we couldn't bear the thought of her driving the RX-7...
I wanted the turbo (Series 5) version. Loved the look, and the interior was fantastic. I arranged a test drive at Mazda Qld (I knew the Mazda training manager), but when I got there, the State manager intervened and wouldn't let me drive it. I went out and bought the GT4 for less money, and one of the first places I went to was Mazda Qld head office to "say hi".
Actually top prize for BTC goes to a guy at Qld uni in my era: Alfa GTV for his 18th and small plane for his 21st...
As an aside, what was your ‘aspirational’ car when you got your first car? At that age I don’t think I ever imagined a Ferrari in reality (there were only a few in the whole city); I think an X 1/9 was my dream at that time (earlier, I had been very keen on a Lotus Europa!).
That was my first. Then a Series 2 that had a full conversion to a brand new 13B done by Murry Carter It was FAST. Luckily there weren't as many cops on the road in those days needless to say any speed cameras.
Mine was a Mazda 929 HB coupe. After driving my ‘hand me down’ Chrysler GC Galant for a year, I bought one! Two tone (silver over charcoal), 5 speed and 15 inch factory alloys
Exactly the same for me.. I never dreamed that I would own a Ferrari when i was younger and after seeing my cousin’s boyfriends Green X-19, I wanted one badly..
