Very impressive watches guys! Wearing my recently purchased Rolex Datejust Jubilee, it's a vintage 1973 still with the original plastic face. At my age this was my best investment so far! Love it! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Duffy - I gather you have one hell of a collection after showing off that PP in the other thread yesterday. Wow.
Yes Mike - Much cheaper to have cars & watches & only ONE wife. Happily married to the same wonderful girl for 40 years.
This is a Polish watch from the socialist times (1960s). It is called Błonie, aka Blonex abroad. It is a local design, but the internals are Russian (17j) This one appears to be original and well preserved Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Did Rolex ever come out with this model.? Please let me know what you guys think..Thanks! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Sorry dstacy, I'm an old guy on a limited income. I just can't afford to subscribe. Hence no pics. All the best, Ron
I believe it ultimately evolved into the James Cameron 116660D but I could be mistaken. Dstacy or Pap likely have a better answer.
I stumbled on it because I was looking into a big watch from Rolex..I think I might of found my answer looking more into it..I think they might of made only a few or handful at the time that Cameron went under the sea. And getting a hold of one will be nearly impossible or extremely expensive. Guess I might just look into the 44mm ones, and have to pass on the 51mm..
Lovely piece. I have a soft spot for these Russian era watches.!! Would love to know more. How available are they?
I think you are correct, they are near impossible to find and very expensive. Rolex made the Deepsea and Deepsea Blue watches, I have the latter. Absolutely love it too. The Deepsea Challenge watch from what I understood was made, but was not for sale to the general public. James Cameron *or Rolex* handed them out to the people that worked on the making of his documentary Deepsea Challenge for National Geographic. I actually did see one for sale on Ebay around 2 years ago for AU $50,000 or best offer. The seller was Australian, but was living in the USA and he said in his Ebay listing that the watch was gifted to him by James Cameron for his work on the Deepsea Challenge documentary. The seller did state which part of the doco he was involved in, but I forget exactly what he did now. I have a gut feeling that he was part of the crew that built the submarine that took James Cameron to the bottom of the ocean, but I could be wrong. He included A LOT of pics in his Ebay listing and I reckon the watch was 100% genuine. He had a decent feedback score count and he had 100% feedback also. I noticed the watch had a different serial number to a normal Rolex watch. It had a very large looking green Rolex box and a lot of paper work with it with plenty of colour pictures and information about the watch and dive to the Mariana Trench. I wish I saved the pics of it and took some screen shots of his Ebay listing. I was not interested in buying it as it was too much money and too big a watch for me. That Deepsea Challenge watch sold, the seller accepted a 'best offer' from some lucky bugger. I am not sure what it sold for, but I would say he would have got close to his asking price considering how rare it was what it was all about.
