The thought crosses my mind. I thought it was crazy expensive for a time-only, steel watch when I paid something in the mid $20s US for it several years ago. There are other things I may wish to own for the money it will now bring. But then I wear it and change my mind! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I find it hard to imagine that a beautiful 5711a like your one will be worth more than it is now at any time in the next 5 years.
I believe you are right. Maybe I will sell, wait until the next financial down turn and buy it back at half the price. To think the 5711 now trading at similar prices to 3940, 5170, 5960, Datos, plat Daytona, to name a few is not sustainable. Now you have me thinking again I should sell!
Ok just in case you do anything let me please caveat my comments with the statement that I have been wrong about many things many times!!!
Difficult to say what will happen to these prices. I've never ever bought a single watch overprice in my life and so my risk is really small even if prices will come down. However actual prices are crazy but I was saying the same when 5711 was around 40k. There are some good catchers however in this moment: 3940, 5170, 5960 as cwilson13 said. I'd even add: 3970 (masterpiece), 5270 (at the limit), 116528, 116506, 116505 all watches that are "cheap" in this market
Yes, love the idea of the 3970. The other that is now close to price is the 5070g. This one has been on my list for a long time. For an even exchange 5070g for the 5711, I would have to strongly consider.
Sorry not to derail the thread with comments about relative value of Pateks but may I just say while 3970 is unquestionably a tasteful timepiece, it is tiny at 36mm. Of the series of perpetual calendar Chronographs the absolute pick imho is 5970. Made in limited quantities, beautiful size at 40mm and perfect proportions unlike say 5270 that has the lower half of the dial that is way too crowded and proportions all wrong. Here is a pic from when I last owned a 5970. It is on my buy back list! Image Unavailable, Please Login
It’s amazing. I am going to say it, it’s the best watch of all time. White gold, silver face, just like the picture above. Hand made, incredible craftsmanship, outstanding provenance, limited supply, timeless design, perfect size, better than money in the bank in terms of an investment. Ok it’s not waterproof so you need a 5740 or an RM 027 for when you are standing on the back of your yacht in your white robe puffing on a Cohiba Churchill but that’s ok, it will be nice to have a change from time to time. I have never been sure about the 5070g with the thick bezel and the railway tracks. This is a watch I think I’d need to wear for a week before I passed judgement. Image Unavailable, Please Login
5070 has always been a 70 percent watch as it gets me across midfield but cant get all the way there. The 5970 is plus every time i see one. Hows that for scientific? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Actually I collect Patek chronos so I have them all. The one I prefer on my wrist is 5270. The one I prefer 5970. And in love with my 5070p which I almost never wear
I owned a 3940p for a short time. It’s was just too small. Even though the 3970 is thicker it too would probably not fit my eye. Also for the 5070, it’s big (case is too big for the moment for sure)...but I like it for some reason. Tried one on a few years back and always thought I might own one some day. Especially at the $60-70k US price point today. Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
