Wearing this today. Haven’t worn it in a while. Solid rose gold chronograph made at the height of WWII in Switzerland. First, who could possibly afford a solid gold watch in 1941 or 42? Second, how was any Swiss watchmaker able to stay in business even though Switzerland remained “neutral”? I bought at an auction in NYC around 20 years ago. It’s in amazing condition considering it is 85 years old. . Image Unavailable, Please Login
I bought the watch a couple of years ago and the manufacturer is a company called Cuervo y Sobrinos. It was made to celebrate the 1957 Grand Premio de Cuba. Juan Manuel Fangio won the race driving a Maserati 300S and some guy named Carroll Shelby finished second driving a Ferrari 410 Sport. I also sent you a pm with some additional information.
Heading to the beach tomorrow. This is the one I wear near water. Got it out this afternoon. Fun automatic piece. . Image Unavailable, Please Login

A lot of you guys have very nice pieces. This is not the most valuable watch I own, but certainly the most expensive. Today I’m wearing my first year made, gilt, chapter ring, 1675. It was produced in 1960 and is the second oldest serial number known to still exist. This watch cost me a big fight with the wife 15 years ago. Back when it came up for sale, I showed it to her and told her there was no way I was going to pay the asking price. She told me I always did things for her and it was time I did something for myself. A fight ensued. I lost when she looked at me and asked, “Do you like having sex with me?” . By the way, just to make you guys laugh, the fight we had over the amount I didn’t want to spend? At that time it was the most expensive watch I’d ever bought. But she made it very clear if I ever didn’t want to sleep alone again I was going to buy it. Had to have been 2009, 2010, somewhere in there. The amount I spent? $3,500. Sure wish my stock portfolio had appreciated like this thing has.
Joe, It was: watch + sex or no watch + no sex I think Dave made the right choice, even if it is a Rolex - happy wife, happy life... ;^) Regards, Art S.
Hahahaha!!!! Yeah, I can still remember that fight. I was definitely going to win. There was no way I was going to drop $3,500 on a watch for myself. I was adamant and right. Then she pulled out the coochie card……
