If a minimum weight did not have to be made on each car, imagine what the designers could do with super light weight materials. If an ariel atom can weight 500kg, and modern track cars can weight less, why is a F1 car stuck to 701kg this year? Although you could argue, if there was no weight limit teams would only hire small under weight drivers. Weight reduction is the key to performance and fuel efficiency, this would translate in to road car technology a few years down the line. As it stands, F1 is no longer producing innovations that end up in road cars like they use to. Shame really. Neil
An unlimited F1 car would be the 1982 Ferrari 126C2 but made with carbonfibre, some undertub aero, and better rubber. Full ground effects, 3-panel rear wing, side skirts....
