I am planing to have my 308 total respray, restore, striping to bear metal. I want freshly new car and enter classic car contest when it's done.....But the problem is 3 monthes of waiting... no Ferrari in garage for 3 monthes. Last time it went valve adjustment for 3 weeks, I was so boreddddddd. Now it's going to be 3 monthes...
Anyone got experience of having your Ferrari in for a long time??? How do you cope?????

I don't want to hear it. I'm 8000 miles away from my cars. At least you can swing by the shop every now and then to see it.

Go buy another one. I hear Mondial coupes are cheap...

Or get a mini-Ferrari. Lancia Scorpion, Fiat X1/9, etc

Not much of a used Italian car selection here on the mainland.

Sure, another Mondial would cost me $20k to buy in the states, and another $25-30k to get into China.

    I'll wait.

Errr, I was actually responding to PatPong, but I suspect most of the same objections apply in his scenario too.

Heck, I can't find a really good X1/9 here in the states! :D

I'm in Guam, so the shipping would only be about $2k. Mondial.....hmmmm, I guess it would be a fun car to travel the island in. I am just trying to fathom the upkeep on 2 classic Ferraris............

The shipping is the easy part, getting it through customs is the tough part.

Upkeep on mine isn't too bad. I've planned for it, so it never comes as a shock.

I'd just get into more mods for my other 4 sports cars. V8 240Z: passenger Recaro w/ Simpson belts. Wide body RX7: Window tint. Supercharged Miata: get Sony CD deck from Ferrari. Ferrari: get black Sony CD set up (7715). Sell the other 7 & on EBay.

Come on guys.... Need actual realitic solution here.

Either I let the rust, the crack, the door need banging shut starring at me everyday. And I cann't stand that. Or live without it for three monthes. But tolive without it means no sunday morning drive, no fast run, no coffee at my favorite parking and starring at my car, no last look before bed time... that's hard. Some of you must have gone through that.... what do you do???

If you want to do it...........go for it.

Three months is a little price to pay.

If you feel like your missing it just think

    1. about the people who never get to drive an Fcar
    2. Those affected by the tsunami.

This really isn't a big deal. For me, in Maryland I would just pick a time when the climate wasn't going to be the best, like winter.

Good luck and post picks when done.

Go for it! I've been rebuilding my '84 308 for 2+ years. When the car is out of the garage for a while I plan before hand and have at home a few different parts/components to work on. Whether it be the heater motors, or engine pieces that I want to powder coat... you get the idea. So go for it. When the whole thing comes together you'll be really happy!

I did have my MGA restored about 6 years ago and the project took about 18 monthes. The car I got was about 30% stage and brought it up to 95% and won a classic car contest a few monthes after its done. I had fun seeing it built little by little. and yes, It worth all the hard works, really hard works, eventhough I didn't actually get my hands on the actual works but there to manage and supervise just how I wanted it done. Argue with the mechanic is a must. He wanted to do it his way but his ways always comprimised things. I was like an architect of the project.

But yes, it was the most rewarding thing ever. I am so proud of it even today.
So, yes, I will go for it with my 308.....thank you guys
