How is the 360 Challende Stradale different than normal 360? Engine and transmission different? How much lighter? Body different? Brakes and wheel sizes? Suspension? My 355 is somewhat modified wondering if anybody has done the full "Challenge Stradale" mods to a 355
Well you could do carbon brakes, carbon seats, carbon mirrors, different decklid, titanium springs. They claim +25hp but not sure what exact differences there are (I think carbon air boxes and different maf sensors) or if they actually make that much more than a regular 360. No carpet, different front/rear bumper, diffuser...... I'm sure I'm missing a lot. Some would say you would need to convert it to an F1 system. I -think- us versions are around 3000lbs. The ones with the lexan slider windows (EU only? not sure) I think a bit less.
To follow a different reasoning, the 360 Challenge Stradale is by definition a road going version of the Challenge car. So an F355 "Challenge Stradale" would be a road going version of the F355 Challenge, so therefore a gated manual. Of course the Ferrari V8 special models are not real race cars but just carry the spirit of the Challenge cars, but yes the Challenge wheels, suspension bits, a sporty exhaust, nice racing seats would be a good start. If you're going all the way then pull out all the carpets and add the spoiler too.
I would imagine if Ferrari had made a scud or CS version of the 355 it would fall somewhere between the regular and the challenge. Stiffer, but not race suspension minimal, but not barebones interior Slightly different styling Different wheels, yes probably challenge Lots of carbon Different exhaust/sound 5-10% more power Different seats, but not challenge No radio Big brakes ~100lbs lighter And definitely a simple stripe F1 vs gated kind of depends on if your shooting for what ferrari would have done in the 90s vs a modern take on it. I say, who cares, but then again, my car is both
No matter what you do there will be a substantial difference in how it drives. I have driven the CS and found it to be much more stiff than the 355. It is also a pain to deal with when it comes to rough roads as the tires are |----| that thick on the rim. If you want to make a road version of the race version of the F355, you will want to get a street legal F355 Challenge.
Most of us Stooges have 348 CS's so I would think that is where you'd stand a better outcome for your money. 348's are way less expensive to upgrade and the outcome is a better result from stock than what you would get upgrading a 355. Also, if you start with a 355 Challenge, you are limited to MY 1995 due to the VIN., assuming you want to drive it legally on the street.
The tune, TCU , wheels, body trim, brakes, and interior all make a CS. I have a CS TCU in my Spider and it is magnificent! For F1 cars, this is the big step forward. I imagine 355 and 360 Modena cars are still a little green and "Grandma Shifty" when it comes to F1. The CS also had sport exhaust. Not sure if the heads were different or just the tune. I would go with a challenge car and a stripe for starters. Carbon brakes if available but not mandatory on a 355 Challenge, right?
Mine is already in quite far in the Challenge mods, but not totally finished yet: there are a lot of changes to do, and then the biggest problem is to keep the car street legal, that will depend the country... my mods: shocks (Nitron shocks modified, much better than Challenge stock shocks) anti roll bars F/R and drop links engine supports OEM Challenge full interior strip and OEM roll cage Stoptech Race Trophy F/R kits Tubistyle exhaust empty cat (= decat tube) complete Challenge rear Wing OEM Challenge wheels OEM Challenge seats Schroth harness (Street legal and FIA) It would be easier to find a street legal F355 Challenge, there are some in the market...
Mine is similar Challenge wheels Challenge steering rack and pump Challenge sway bars challenge drop links Challenge engine supports Stoptech Trophy brakes Triple Moton adj shocks Hyper flow cats Goth custom exhuast Lowered suspension Does the 360 have gutted interior? Did they remove A/C? How much lighter than stock 360? I think these mods save 75-100 lbs. Have you weighted you car?
Love the idea of a kind of no expenses spared modern update of the 355. Lots of carbon bodywork, Toda engine, carbon brakes and EXE-TC shocks. Strip it out a bit but make it liveable as a road car. Manual box and it would be really something. Analogue but with modern tech.
1200 lbs front and 800lbs rear if I remember... I didn't go for the hardest 2200 front springs... The Nitron are 2 ways adjustable, very accurate to adapt on each track and so much comfortable than Challenge shocks and the rebound is really great (almost none on the Challenge...)
You would buy a '95 F355 Challenge and add whatever was missing from the street car to make it road legal. To create one from a road car would basically be a big brake kit, tighter steering rack, stiffer suspension and some chassis reinforcement (already added on later street cars), stripped interior and added cooling (gearbox, brakes, oil). The engine, trans and suspension (other than shocks/springs/roll bars) were mostly the same. But I don't know that you'd actually want to do that, unlike the later challenge cars the road and race versions were pretty similar save way too harsh suspension for the road, so really adding the fiorano pack, big brakes and some speedlines to a GTB would be pretty darn close to what you'd want. And yeah, add me to the group going down that path to a degree - I have H&R progressive springs, challenge exhaust, speedlines and a few other mods. I don't think I'm going to go too far though, it's too nice on the road and I don't want to ruin that by harshening it up.
Reviving an old thread lol. I respectfully disagree about Toda stroker kit for a F355 Challenge Stradale project. I think it would be overkill, they quote 436 HP. That's more than the real Challenge Stradale! Lol
Heres my Stradale 355, well 2 of them could not pick a color, both street legal LOL Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
To add to differences already listed. 360CS Different: TCU ECU Mafs Intake manifold Airboxes Exhaust Wheels and tires Brakes Front and Rear Bumpers. Diffuser. Side skirts Alcantara interior Suspension I am sure there is more.
