Have a 348, need a new throw out bearing...I can get the older one with the black seals (still havent found out if the seals can be replaced or not) for $225 from a parts wholesaler or should i get the updated one for $900 which i know the seals can be replaced. The one with the blue seals is the new one, the other one has black seals and is the old one...Which one do you think I should get?

If thats a pic of the two different parts, I sure dont see any physical difference worth over 600 bucks

To me, it depends on how long they last, and the cost to replace. The labor to remove in the event of failure would be the same for each, but it would get down to the cost of the replacement seals, vs the whole new part.

Im not an expert..but from what i have seen..the difference is the new one has two seals back there compared to the black one which only has one. I wonder if they did that to help it seal better. I was also told that it was cast, so I guess the machining in it is different as well. I just dont want another leak...Tearing it down was not bad at all...and its a huge price difference...but i like to do things the right way, not the half-azz way..

In thinking about this, I agree with you: do it right the first time. In the overall scheme of things, it's not THAT expensive.

So maybe a little ROI here . How long did the one that failed last. How long will the new one last. Will you own the car buy the time this one blows. You can buy 4 of the $225 ones for 1 $900 piece. Are you doing the work or are you paying to get it done. Do you expect the $225 one to last as long as the $900 one. I assume that the new seal was an engineering change to maybe make it last longer or to make it lower in cost to repair. Also how much do the seals cost.
