    Here's the thing :

We (my better half and myself) want to get rid of our cars since i almost never drive and replace them by one.
    So it has to :
    - be somehow special
    - be a real everydays' car
    - Has nice perf' so that i can still have some fun.

So far, we thought either Aston V8 Vantage or 911 Gt3.

    Any thoughts/hints ?

I’m a Porsche fan at heart, but for everyday use, I’d go with the Aston. Beautiful car, a lovely engine noise and as quick as you’ll ever need for the public roads. The 911 GT3 might be a little too compromised for an everyday car, though that’s down to personal preferences. Don't rule out a Carrera S either.

I also like the Maserati Quattroporte, but depreciation would be a big factor to consider with this choice.

    Regards

    Martin

    Hi,

yeah, i'll try the GT3 out to see if it's driveable or not.
QP is too big i think, that's the main issue.
Drove the 911 S, but it's not special enough in a way.

I think the Aston V8 stands up to the criteria you listed: it has a sense of occasion but can still be used as a daily driver. Performance is respectable although not overwhelming and certainly sufficient to have some fun when conditions allow.

The new Maserati Coupe definitely deserves a look!!!

I also would consider a 599 / 575 / SuperAmerica. When it goes in for service, get a loaner or a rental.

Aston has horrible resale value, and I don't consider a GT3 a daily driver - If I had to have just one "fun" yet practical car to drive every day I'd go with a 997 C4 or C4S or a 997 Turbo.

Save your money and do what's I'm doing when the lease on my daily driver e60 M5 is up...GO JAPANESE! For coupes you have the Infiniti G35, Nissan Z and soon to be released Nissan GT-R...for sedans you have the Infiniti G35 and M45, the Mitsubishi EVO and Subaru STi...they are cheap, fast, handle well, get relativity good fuel economy, and will be very reliable when compared to German, Italian, American and/or British cars...I plan to get an EVO X when it comes out early next year...

Ive used the V8 Vantage as a daily ( was my friends but I drove it for a month straight). My thoughts.

    - Build quality was subpar..tons of loose bits, malfunctioning radio, wires hanging down from under console, leather dash already lifting, Transmission had issues and had to go into service for almost a month.

    - Performance is decent..but it depends what you're used to driving. But I dont think its as fast as a GT3. Handling was good but not phenomenal. I feel the handling on my Viper and 355 is better ( and vipers arent exactly known for their great handling).

    - Very cozy inside. Nice ride.

Ive never driven a GT3 so cant compare. But I would say that the Vantage is more for comfort and the GT3 more for performance.

I am assuming since you listed only 2-door cars with small/no backseat that you don't have children. You never specified what your price threshold was either.

At any rate, my vote would be for a 996 or 997 turbo. Special enough to get you noticed, not quite special enough to draw unwanted attention...all around performer that can be modded or not, all weather usable, road trip worthy, German reliability, user friendly.

The GT3 is a track car, plain and simple. I have spent some time with a 996 Gt3 and the car is extreme. If you are extreme and you are looking for a street legal race/track car, GO FOR IT! (I would NOT buy this car if there are a ton of bad roads where you live).

Having said that, I am a HUGE AM fan, and if you can get a deal, AMs are gorgeous, although it is my understanding that they are a little more needy than the P-cars.

GT3 wouldn't make to great of a track car. The AMV8 is a gorgeous car that seems like it would be comfortable also. The biggest factor in my recommending it is the performance and the sound of that V8 :)

Really? I guess Porsche is just too new at this whole sports car business to know how to make a decent track car. Hopefully they figure it out soon.

I've put some thought into this for myself recently, and if I could have any car for a DD, I'd probably go with a BMW M6, mainly cause I can purchase it with the extended warrantee and not worry bout too much for 6 years/100k miles, plus it's not TOO flashy for me to park in the street, and I like the fact that it has back seats, in the event that I have someone else who wants to come along somewhere, but mainly I like using the back seats as shelving, to store my jacket, or a book, plus when I'm tired and stuck in stop and go traffic I can let the SMG take care of all the shifting for me.

Since your in Switzerland, and no doubt have to deal with snow, the choice for me is easy. Porsche 911 Turbo. One of the best sportscars in the world, very reliable, a great daily driver, and 4 wheel drive. Done deal.

If it wasn't a BMW (with if it weren't enough a pig's face) it would be a sweet deal indeed.

Actually the 6 kind of reminds me of an elephant's face, I believe I saw a photoshop where they took a 6 and made it look like Dumbo =P

But the car has grown on me quite a bit, I can't explain why, just like the new 3 series and the new 5 series have grown on me, I didn't like either at first.

HUH??? The GT3 IS a track car, in the same vein as the 360 Challenge Stradale! A great toy, but not a very good daily driver.
