Damn? how loving of her? I second that. Listen to William too Grab a small yacht, load it up with some hotties on your way to B.A. Work, play, work, play...repeat.
Its not an answer to your question, but if I could work from anywhere (although I pretty much can, do have some ties here unfortunately) I'd get a room with a view of the harbour in Monaco.
To work at home, you have to have the discipline to determine when you're "on the clock" and when you're off. For some, it's that "office clothes" that tell them they're "working". For others, it's the "work chair" by the computer they use for work. But work 24x7, and you'll have that divorce whether you want it or not. If you have rug rats, you'll certainly want a separate office -- and maybe Robby the Robot to deflect interruptions: "Dr. Morbius is in his study -- never to be disturbed when that door is closed". It's also handy to have somewhere you can spread out your printouts without someone "cleaning them up for you". Maybe you need a bigger condo?
Move to the beach and set up a routine - for example mine is: 9-11 beach walk/swim 11-12 coffee, read mail, mags 12-1.30 housework, shower 1.30-2.00 lunch 2-5 work 5-6 internet (including wasting time on F chat!) 6-7.30 local, international and national news services 7.30 dinner and relax therafter All and any of which may be substituted at any time by taking the 308 for a fang!
what brucey faied to mention was , after locking the door- view lots of internet porn, and punch the clown.
i'm back in the office full-time for now, but i just spent basically a year where i did 75% of my werk from home. the whole point of that was i could do my programming any time of the day, and so most of my best werk would happen between 10pm and 6am, i would guess that in 1 day of werking from home i can do 3-4 days of 'office stuff'. there's just no way you can concentrate for more than an hour at a time in the office, people coming up to get you to do stuff, people to chat to, long beer-filled lunches, nowhere near as comfortable chair, no real desire to sit there and do stuff... but at home, i can find myself having been furiously plugging away at it for several hours and can't remember blinking. my current boss is an idiot for saying he'd rather see me in the office more, i'm going to cost a lot more and take a lot longer to do anything, much more like a normal employee, what a waste of my time.
I would love to work at home in Northern California, Hawaii the big island, 2 places I have found to be paradise. I am OC enough to get the work done w/ the newest software available & always meet the deadlines.
man, how right was i???!! this was nearly 6 months ago that i was asked to return to the office lifestyle. in that 6 months i've achieved maybe 1 months worth of what i would have done werking from home and coming in every now and then for briefings. the worst part is it's not wasting their time, it's wasting MINE! i have better things to do than werking there, but i've got a long term project that i've invested too much time and money (lost opportunity money = $30-100k p/y) over the last few years on this to not see it through, but the red tape and management types who think they're important take too long and have me by the balls. in the last week i've switched over to night-shift so i could get some stuff done, i go in at between 8pm-11pm and leave at 7-8am. it's great, i'm much more awake at night, i'm not getting bugged by people who think i'm I.T. helpdesk with dumb-ass email problems, and i don't take off for an hour or two at lunch for a few pints just to get away from the office. also, i saved about $200 bucks by not having to get plastered every night out of boredom and to get to sleep. but then i blew it at schutzenfest this weekend... well, i'll check back in this thread in another few months and see if anything's improved...
