Talk to him first. If he is stubborn and unreasonable, then go to the city. It is best to get this taken care of early, rather than wait a few months / years. Our neighbor had lots of meetings and guest at their house and typically had the people park in front of our house first. They also left the garbage cans at the curb and brought out the bags every day or two. I started by having my kids put their garbage cans back at thier house every trash day. Then I made a joke about it to my neighbor, and they felt bad. My wife complained to the Homeowner's association about the parking, and they got a letter and felt bad. We had about a two hour talk with the neighbor and now everything is good. We told them that if they would ask their guests to park in front of their house first, and use our area as an overflow, we would appreciate it. It turns out we have good neighbors that weren't even aware these things bothered us. So now they oblige our requests and we don't have any problems. Try talking to the neighbor first and see where that goes.

Nobody has mentioned what the other neighbors think. I'd start knocking on doors and get support. If that fails, plant drugs in his cars and on the property and get him busted as a dealer!

Rent one of the biggest container dumpsters you can find, the ones used for construction remodeling, politely ask him to move his whatever so you can park it in front of your house. Leave it there for 4 weeks. By then he would have had to find somewhere else to park. Hopefully he gets the hint..

You may want to talk to a few neighbors and see if anyone else is disturbed with him. There is more power in numbers.

I had the same problem. My new neighbors parked all their barely functional cars in front of their house, my house, and our neighbors' house instead of the most logical place, their garage. If I wanted a view of cars in front of my house, then I would park my own cars there. But the neighbors have no shame or consideration in ghettofying the neighborhood. After talking to one of the other neighbors, it appears that these people have been getting notices from the HOA regarding their yard, flowerbed, and cars, but have ignored them; not only that, they are long overdue with HOA dues. It really is a shame because the neighborhood is really nice.

I ended up moving 9 months later. I really miss the old neighborhood and floorplan of the old house, but everytime I stop by (it's lease property now), I throw up a little in my mouth because of them.

I agree with Terry... Go talk to the guy... Does he smoke...? Bring him a cigar... He obviously likes cars; bring him a book on cars... Tell him, from one car enthusiast to another, you'd like to share it with him...

Then explain to him that you really need the space in front of your house, and would really appreciate if he moved his car... Don't ask - it's your space - but be polite when you tell him it needs to be moved. Show a little spine; saying please and all that will probably yield the same results GregD mentioned... If he tried any of the put-off tactics mentioned, then stand firm and repeatedly reiterate that you need that space and that he'll have to figure out some other accommodations for his vehicles. Make it crystal clear to him - in as polite a way as possible - that you need the space in front of your house.

If that doesn't work, explore other alternatives... But don't let the air out of his tires; no car enthusiast would harm another person's car...

It's not about one parking spot in front of his house. Its about an eyesore
    to his neighborhood:

"He has a 2 RV's, a motorcycle, 5 regular cars and sea-doo's parked on his lawn! He parks his RV's down the street by the neighborhood park and the front of his house (150ft+ stretch) is filled up with cars. So is his driveway. Talk about white trash. He has so many cars that he parks two of them in front of my house"

This sounds like well over 20 cars.

If your goal is simply to have "one" parking spot in front of your house, go talk to him. If you want to deal with the real problem, call parking enforcement.

Personally, I would NOT go talk to him first. Why? Not because I'd be afraid, but because this guy KNOWS what he's doing. The fact that he moved his car into your spot as soon as you left mean she's horning in on all the parking spots and he's being very brazen about it. I mean, come on, does anyone think theres a slight chance that this guy doesn't realize that 10-20 cars all over the neighborhood *isn't* a pain and eyesore to everyone? Or do you think he just doesn't care?

As others said, this isn't a new issue - he didn't just turn into a selfish ignoramus overnight, he was doing this wherever he lived before and its highly likely thats why he moved out of there.

The real reason not to talk to him first is firstly theres a very very low chance of success and second you mark yourself as the whiner. Then if he tells you to f-off and you take it to the authorities, he's gonna know it was you. And he's going to do everything possible to aggravate you within the law. There'll be some kind of parking enforcement and/or violation of some codes - let the authorities handle it. If they tell him to do it, they have to do it. If you tell him, he will most likely tell you its a public street and shove it.

I have to say don't even bother talking to him about it. If it was just one car, or one of his buddies doing it constantly thats one thing. But you damn well know he's probably expecting it, and knows he's violating a long list of laws.

Call the city and they will take action. Maybe do a little research, if the registration is expired on any of the vehicles they will likely just tow them ;)

At times it sucks living in a city where you can't even park in the street past 2am w/o a ticket, but it sure does keep chit like this from being such a headache.

Oh and fix your flippin sprinklers, that or time them to come on when nobody will be parked there.

Talk to your other neighbors and have a meeting about it then write a formal complaint in the behalf of the neighborhood and all of you sign it then send it to the authority or to the City.

Buy two old cars for $200 each and park them in front of his house.

Wait till he comes over to talk to you about the issue, and see what he has to say? LOL

(he'll probably want to buy them from you, to add to his collection)

Sprinkle a little birdseed under the windshield wipers of the car, and around the perimiter of the car. EVERY DAY.

After about a week or two of cleaning bird crap off from all over the car, EVERY DAY, he'll figure it must be where he's parking that's the problem and move the cars freeing up your spaces.

ALso, if he parks facing traffic, it's illegal, get him ticketed. If he parks too close to the hydrant, call the fire chief and get him ticketed and towed. Car with an expired inspection or registration, missing plate, etc. more tickets. Call the police, let them handle it.

Terry. In a perfect world, dropping in on a neighbor and telling him he's parked in front of your house and it annoys you works. In this world, where the guy clearly is an *******, it won't. He'll shrug you off, or get pissed and make it worse than it already is. Too much **** out there, too many guns and crazies to do the neighborly thing anymore. Besides, he knows he's being a nuisance, and doesn't care.

Just my $.02. But, the birdseed thing works great, and the birds eat the evidence.

The "authorities" are nothing but a bunch of government worker DEADBEATS.

His only chance, because as pointed out by many others here the guy knows he's being an a sshole, is violence. Get your buddies and jump the s.o.b on a dark night.
