I am having trouble wrapping my mind around this. https://www.yahoo.com/autos/s/spoiled-son-sets-fire-gifted-ferrari-order-upgrade-125000810.html
I'd cut him any access to all the cars. Let him walk for a while. But I don't think there is anything to do with that type of spoiled kid. It's too late now.
....no excuse, but it is not easy for kids with money. My dad gave me a suitcase and sleeping bag when I graduated from high school, but no cash.
my father would have made a public spectacle out of whooping he would given me. Give them everything and they will have no character
Conspiracy, insurance fraud, arson, public endangerment, and a family disgrace. I would send his ass to jail and not pay for the legal fees.
I'm not sure I believe the story but his allowance sucks. With a net worth of 30m the high estimate of 120k a year for an allowance is ridiculous. Just 1 percent would be 300k and 1.5m would be reasonable. If true, it might explain the fire.
I'd give him a brand new car - Dacia Sandaro.... and take all the other cars away. my thinks the allowance would be cut as well.
I grew up with a kid, his parents had endless funds, he totaled 2 brand new vets his senor year, his dad took him to the dealer and said "I'll buy you this 3rd vet (a year old 427 6 pack) if it will last till graduation, I'll buy you anything you want. One day on the small main street in town, he put down 165 feet of rubber, the judge took away his license for the maximum penalty, 165 days. During his suspension, he was caught again in his brothers Cobra, the judge took his license for 3 years. On the way home from court his dad stopped by the Ford dealership and bought him a new 4 wheel drive pick-up and told him to grow up and become responsible.
Just another one of the countless problems that our society is facing. My 13 year old daughter told me that she couldnt wait to get her license so I could GIVE her my Ferrari. Yeah, thats not gonna happen.... PDG
Jesus I must be getting old as my first thought after reading this started with "when I was a kid" but anyways WHEN I WAS A KID I started saving for a car when I was about 10 and busted my butt working and saving and bought my own car with my own money and paid the insurance, taxes every expense I paid myself and my parents still took the car away from me whenever I got in trouble which resulted in me having to walk to school, uphill, both ways, in 3 feet of snow.
What point is there in sending your kid to his room for punishment, there he has every bit of technology to play or chat with, what ever happened to send him to the kitchen to do the dishes? Here is a great idea, send him to the garage to drive dads Ferrari? that's punishment!
The kid is actually 20 and an adult. With 30 million in assets I'd say it's unlikely he lives with Mom & Dad so you can't sent him to his room our make him do chores. The parenting years are over.
Perhaps his parents could strip him, of his riches, forward them to me actually, and let the kid learn the value of a dollar, like everyone else.
Parents are weakening their children by handing them everything. Chinese parents try and out do each other around where I live by buying their children ridiculous cars. Our local High School is like an exotic car dealership. A couple of Ferrari's, a McLaren, many Mercedes AMG's etc.
I sold a 2000 Porsche 996 to this Real Estate Agent back in 2004. I meet him and his son at the train station by my house. The kid came up from college at SDU via the train. It didnt take long to figure out the car was for the kid. Nice guy, clean cut kid. You know where this is going....... About 18 months later, I get a notice from the state of California saying my old car is going up for auction. I called the number on the notice that was for the towing/storage facility. They said notice letters automatically go out to previous owners etc. When I inquired about the car, they said it was in pieces, nothing was salvageable, not even the wipers. The kid wrapped it around a pole and took himself and his friend along with him. Only a fool would buy their child a high performance auto when they are young. Regarding this special Swiss kid, I would send him to college and pay for school and housing. He would have to work for everything else from that point in life. He would also know that there will be no inheritance, period, ever. Flunk out of school, too bad.
If I was the dad that raised this kid, and was the role model and enabler of this behavior I would probably buy him the 488 he wanted.
