I am planning to sale my 1990 348ts and upgrade to a higher model by year end. The car has 24k miles, many upgrades and is in great shape, both mechanically and cosmetically. She have had 3 major services already and the last one, very extensive, was done by a Ferrari dealer a little over 4 years ago, so she is past do for one. I have been advised to sale her now, since the pre-summer market is usually better than winter and let the new buyer think about the service. Then, stay without car until i am ready to purchase a new one by this winter. If you were in my place, taking in consideration the economical factor, what would you do ? 1) Follow the advice and sale the car now without the service obviously for a little less but in a pre-summer market. 2) Perform the service right away to make it more desirable and then sale the car in a pre-summer market, obviously asking for more. 3) Perform the service right away and sale by year end so i can enjoy her this summer and still have a fresh service that can be added to the factor but in a winter market. So this is my dilemma .... any thoughts ?
Having just done a deal with a 348, I can tell you that it is easier for you to sell without doing a service. Discount the price, making it more attractive, and let the buyer decide who, when, where and how to do the service. my 2 cents.
I say do the required service to it, drive it, and when you're READY to upgrade, then sell it! I will say this, anyone looking for a stellar example of a 348ts, buy Roberto's car when he's ready to sell!
Hey Brrruutha with the same name Good luck with your sale, here is what I found that was helpful in selling mine. Definitely do the service, you will draw more people in and exclude way less. Remember these cars are usually first time Ferrari buyers, they are usually very apprehensive about buying because of all the misinformation out there of retarded operating cost. That being said they want to be worry free for a while before an engine out. Second is put it up for sale asap after major completed, you will have a way harder time selling off season. You have already enjoyed her let someone else have some fun too .
+1 I would do the major and put it up for sale during the summer while still enjoying it. Good luck on the sale. Cheers
Sell it without the major! Use the money to help pay for the new car. If you spend (example) 6k on a major you'll only see about 3k to 4k more in the price, to me that's a loss of 2k that could have been use on the new one! Not to mention lets say you do the major and want a higher price to reflect the service but you have to wait months maybe even a year to get the price you want, well now you have a car with a major that's one year old and your still looking for a higher price! Also depending on who you have do the major will help, if you have an indy do it there is no telling (to the new buyer) what was actually done, now if it was done at Ferrari most buyers would feel better about the service.. Just my .02 cents P.S. Good luck no matter what you do! Can't wait to see the new one..
I believe 5 years between major services is acceptable..... at least it's been good for my 1990 TS. As a buyer, I would prefer to purchase a clean example in need of a major at a discounted price. That way, I can get it done correctly at the shop of my choice. IMHO you will never recover the cost of an engine out service when selling. The prices on these cars is pretty weak right now, as you probably know.
Hi Roberto, Who ever gets her will be more then pleased. Your car wants for nothing ! I say put her up for sale now and see what kind of price you can get with and without the service. If the price is right you can always throw it in to seal the deal. Its a win win situation My .02 Good Luck, I will be in Vegas over July 4th Regards Glenn
I would list it immediately without the major and factor that in to the sell price....if it doesn't sell then you can do the major when its due and re-list it.
