Two years ago I was picking up one of my cars from service at Bentley/Rolls Royce in Tampa FL and spotted a 308 in the used car lot. Car was a time capsule. Still shiny paint and beautiful interior. Red/Black. I looked at the dash and I saw that it had only 3,000 miles on it. I inquired about the car and the manager at the dealership, which I know very well discouraged me from buying the car due to it's deferred maintenance. In any case I had to have and I took it home with me. I thought it would need a major and couple other minor things....

Long story short is that I spent about $16,000 to straighten the car out mechanically.(It's not even the money that bothers me as much as it is the inconvenience and time involved). I don't get to drive it often due to other choices in the garage. Even though I put 1,000 miles on it in two years which is a quarter of it's total usage in 33 years.

I am moving back to NY and took my favorite two cars with me from FL. My FF and Rolls Royce Phantom. I kept the 308 in FL and I am driving it now even less. The car deteriorated once already from not using it and I don't want that to happen again. All my cars are driven almost daily except the 308, mostly because I can't get my two kids in it and I am always worried about getting stuck with it. Which as you can imagine happened more then once to me.

    What to do?

Sell it? If so, I want around 45k for it? Reasonable?

Put it away in storage (properly)? Where in FL in NY?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

This has been discussed a great deal here before. $45 is strong money for a 2Vi. I know it is really low miles but the next owner has to understand that for that money - he can never EVER drive it. As those miles add on the price falls and falls and falls. Why would someone want to pay $45,000 for a 1980 308, drive it several years and find out he can't even get $24,000 for it anymore because he just turned it into every other 1980 Bi out there.

For 45K It has to be to a collector so good luck with that.

If it were mine and I got $32,000 for it I would be all smiles.

Put it up for $45K and see what happens. With those miles and condition I bet it sells close to that. Good luck. You could always sell the FF and drive the 308 more. Ha.

Do sell it for $45K, this could be the start of our car pricing going north.

In the past year I've seen two low mileage QVs go for the mid 40s, so who knows.

True, but it's funny reading this because everyone who dropped $45K on a "normal" new car this year will be lucky to get $24K for it in a couple of years.

Plus the OP has an FF, which is probably losing more value every month than the 308 will lose with another 10K miles added to the odometer over the next couple of years.

I hope someone buys and drives this car. Ridiculous...

You wont get $45k if you don't ask. Besides, I've found if you ask high, you will turn away the dreamers, and really only get bugged by the people that have the money and the ambition to purchase such a thing. So, put the car up a little higher than you would be willing to sell for, and if it sells, it sells. In the mean time, enjoy it a little.

Bullfighter is correct. The money lost on FF is a different story altogether.

Call me crazy, but my 308 is more special in my opinion then the FF. You can go online or to a dealer and find a similar FF and get a good deal on it. But to find an all stock, low mileage 308 is more difficult.
