    Answer truthfully. You're a DA (Desk Assistant) in a dorm. Two girls come down to tell you that one of them left their room for a second to go see the other and saw a suspicious kid walking in their hallway. She returns to her room to find her laptop missing. So they are telling you this, you call Public Safety and alert them. As the girls are waiting for the elevator, the suspicious kid comes down in the main lobby on his cell phone, they think it's him but he changed clothing. You're stuck and have no clue what to do as you were never trained for anything like this, you have a responsibility not to leave the desk but have a more important personal responsibility to protect the girls. However in this case, neither you nor the girls are too sure if it's him b/c he has changed clothing, you tell the girls watch over him so you can call public safety again, kid starts walking they follow and he runs, they start to chase him. They pass a group of kids, and scream he stole my laptop, about 5 guys start chasing him, they run across the st. and a cop sees this happening, so he gives chase. Kids catch up and knock him to the ground, open the bag and find her laptop plus a few school books stolen as well. Kid is arrested.

    A. Should you have done what you did and made the call
    B. Asked the kid to come over b/c you have to talk to him
    C. **** the phone call and given chase as well

    Most importantly noone is hurt in the end, besides the f#cking idiot's parents who get a phone call their son was caught stealing.

    You did the right thing by calling Public safety on him, regarding talking to him, it depends if he's bigger than you really

    I think you did the right thing in the end

    I'm not a big guy by any means. 5'7 and 120 pounds. But these girls aren't as big as me. What bothers me the most is if he was dumber than he was and turn and swung he would have hit the girl. As I said i'm not a big guy, and most people don't see my angry side ever but If he swung at me I would have taken him down with no regard to my own safety. Plus I can take a punch a lot better than one of those girls, i'd be angrier at myself right now if he had done so b/c I know I am better suited for such an occasion.

    What baffles me is how dumb a criminal he is, he's smart enough to change clothing but than walks right out the front door when there are a lot of side doors to use.

    Such was not always the case, as Deputies used to call me "Rambo." I took no gruff and gave no mercy or quarter when the law was in my own hands. Then again, Sheriff's Dept. always took at least 30 minutes to arrive...

    BUT that was then and there.

    These days, in my workplace, if I see a problem, I am to notify Security. That is a matter of policy, backed up in writing, and they back it up with "why" in many legal ways. Beyond that, I can assist.

    You went through the proper channels, twice in rapid succession, in fact. You were 100% right to do this exactly as you did.

    If a burly, no-neck security guard had done the same thing, he shouldn't be criticized, no matter who tackled the thief outside.

    I'm sure you're replaying this over and over in your mind, but:

    Even in the eyes of the witnesses, girls or not, he was a "maybe" due to him being a "master of disguises." It wasn't until he ran the jig was up.

    So, if you're kicking yourself... Stop. In the name of love...

    Another consideration in the realities of current life is the fact that you don't know what this idiot has in his pockets. If he's stupid enough to do something like this than he may very well be stupid enough to do something even MORE stupid (inflict harm onto others with a weapon). Bottom line is you did as you were suppose to do and it was your call to PS that brought this moron to justice without anyone getting hurt. Regardless of your size or ability to take a hit, you don't want to find yourself in a situation where you or someone you know is in a fight for their life...not a laptop or a couple of text books.

    Nice work...glad you nailed the bastard.

    You did great. You remained neutral yet engaged. If you went after him falsely and the girls took advantage of your absence at the desk, you'd be kicking yourself for being a sucker...nice instincts!
