It didnt need much work. It underwent an extensive renovation. But you are correct about the heat, I believe the heating bill was close to $1,000 a month! But than again that's what it costs to heat this bastard I'm in right now! After the first year we wised up and did the monthly average which is about 300. I don't spend too much time on the East coast anyway.

Aesthetics of the house considered, I'd pay fair market value for the land, raze the building and build something that is pleasing to live in.

There is a house much bigger than that across the road from me, but with alot less land. It's situated in an outlying hilly suburb, but still only 5 km from downtown. Sort of like Bel Air (but by Adelaide standards).

Was bought for AUD $900,000 late 1999, now worth about AUD $2 million (thanks to recent housing boom).

Ouch. Wow. Out here $500k would get you a mansion, a hundred acres or so, all the cows you wanted, and you'd still have enough left over for a nice Ferrari. Give or take a few cows maybe.

But the best part is that you'd have hundreds and hundreds of miles of open road and you can go for days without seeing a cop. Just make sure you top off the tank before you leave town, the next gas station is probably a long way away.

Doesn't look anywhere near 13k sq ft anyway. Something fishy about the chain link fence around the rear porch.
