Hi all, I am need of experienced 355 advice. I have not seen this car in person, but probably will next week. It is a theft recovery, clean title. -Can anyone notice what would need replacing from the pictures, or what to look at in more depth in person? -Also, I know its hard to say without closer inspection, but any idea what to pay? Any help is very appreciated, I would love to move from the 308 to the 355. INFO: 1997 355 Spider 21,000 miles What is behind the front seats? Ouch, what a shame! I would say upper $40's tops, my guess (if you need the 30k) is that you'll have another $15k to stick into it to bring it to respectable levels. Assuming something really wrong hasn't occurred beyond the stuff I can see. Good luck, sometimes opportunities lie in stange places.
Radio missing, the steering column surround, lateral engine covers are missing--Not that big of a deal, but If I am correct the 5.2 Motronic ECU's are missing from the rear area or maybe it is just the cover for them missing(Looks like one of the covers holding up the engine bonnet in last pic) ---Could be BIG money to replace...Not to mention the THROUGH cleaning it needs...My guess a normal ,well sorted , well documented , GOOD car for that year and mileage should be in the $75K - $80K range---so best to find out what is missing or is in need of fixing/replacing and start deducting that from the GOOD car price...
RUN! Missing? 1) Boot cover for top. 2) Both engine side covers 3) Leather covers behind seats 4) Steering column cover 5) Leather "glove box" for rear parcel shelf (probably $6k to replace those items alone) Where is the tool kit, manuals and tire inflator? (add another $1k min to replace those) Problems? 1) The Bosch motronic box behind the passenger seat is NOT supposed to be open with all the boards exposed...nor is the cable connecting to it, supposed to have all the wires expose....someone tore into all that either in the process of stealing the car, or trying to fix it. The engine lid struts are shot, notice the thing used to hold it up? (which may be one of the covers for behind the seat...but it is fabric and they are leather on my 1997. You can be certain the car was abused...so the clutch and flywheel are suspect ($7k to $8k to fix). With no records you have to assume it needs a major service ($7k) plus any other "needs" which look like plenty. Run Forrest, Run! Seriously, if you want to have your first Ferrari experience to be a pleasant one, don't buy a "dog" from a junk yard. Leave this car for the speculators...
Clear title? I'd pay $30,000. **edit** Nevermind, if I was buying a 355 I'd want F1... so I'd offer $20k. Its not worth the gamble to me.
Agree with Dave. I'd Pass at just about any Price. God knows what Else is Wrong. You get what you Pay for. Many Well Sorted 355s out there. Keep Searching !
I agree with Dave.....you know absolutely nothing about the engine...and in this condition you can't even crank it...stolen cars are usually run harder than hard.....also look under the car to see if it has been off road...the rear wheel height and camber look a little off.
$25k for me...and only after I had a thorough inspection so I have some idea of what I need to spend to put it back together. But trust me, some "glassy eyed" newby with no experience is going to think he's getting a "deal" and will pay $50k for it...drop some money to get it running...realize it needs way more work than he wants to spend, and this car will get flipped several more times...until someone decides to fix it right, or it ends up in Vegas as part of the exotic rental fleet there....
Ok, glad I asked you guys, thought a could get away with a steal. I'll stick with my problem free 308 until a decent 348/355 comes along. If anyone is interested, the car is at Copart's Los Angeles facility. $38,750 as of today 8423 SOUTH ALAMEDA LOS ANGELES, CA 90001 Phone: (323)583-1713 Fax: (323)583-8642 Thank you for all the input, Danny M
Im surprised, the sale was not supposed to be until 5/29/2007. Did they give you any info about the car, Robbie?
They could not w/o a LOT number. The girl said all the Ferrari--SPIDERS were sold. Very possible she could be wrong because she sounded like a secretary , but they could not tell me anything w/o a LOT number...If you have the LOT number let me know...
The last shot shows a "dealer tag" of Ferrari of Beverly Hills, wonder if you could call them and ask when it was stolen and how it was recovered? James in Denver
