In the original post, the question was what would you buy with an extra 30K for another toy? A bunch of people have said that they would buy a 993 911 Turbo Porsche. Please tell me where I can buy a well-sorted 993 911 Turbo Porsche for $30,000. The last time I looked, they were all still in the mid-to-low $50,000 range (for seemingly nice, well sorted examples of "basic" 993s, not Turbos.) If anyone has a 1996 year model 993 911 Turbo S for sale that is well taken care of for sale at $30,000, I've got cash ready and waiting for you.

I'm not sure what 30k USD will by in the US but if I convert that to NZD and spend it locally........I would be in the market for an M5 V8 if daily duty was the order of the day........ if another toy was the goal then probably a Lotus Elise MkII.

    And if I have a 348 I would put the 30k and the 348 together and get a 355.......not that's a good move!! :D

You know, the more pictures you post of your Ginetta, the more it starts to grow on me... on balance though, I still prefer to aspire towards 348 ownership. :D

    All the best,
    Andrew.

I'm sorry if I gave the impression he should buy a 993TT for the Cash. I just wanted to drop a quick picture of the front and I didn't drop a side picture of my TT-S cause I knew it was a lot more. You can buy a very nice 993 Cab or a REALLY nice 993 Coupe for the 30k.

He also won't have the headaches of an old British beast with a constant stream of cash flowing to repairs.

Don't get me started on the Mercedes someone said. He'd have 3k a year in WTF's

A Lotus will bump you into submission. They are fun for a while on the track

Atoms can't be had close to 30k. Possibly upper 50's for an abused one.

Porsche's are Fricken fun to drive. My GT3 is the most fun I can have in a car PERIOD. Not one in my stable offers the excitment of driving it. Porsche's for the cash ROCK. Turn the key and fly and don't forget to change the oil every year. That's all you need to do with a 993.

this is just my 2 cents.

Definitely agree on the Mercedes... my Dad had a high-spec 2000-build CLK convertible that was a bloody disaster. He went from a life-long Mercedes enthusiast to vowing never to buy another one again. :( He drives BMWs now, which are pretty good.

Ah, ok... I wasn't sure if we were talking in $(USD) or £(GBP). I think (but not wholly confident) you could get an Atom for about £30k, at current exchange rates would that put it at about $50-55k?

    All the best,
    Andrew.

.....I was askin because I am headed to Barrett Jackson next month and wondered if there was any agreement on what you guys would be looking for. I am going to research some of the cars you guys mentioned. I know, I know, no deals to be had at BJ...at least on the televised portion, but hey, you just never know......I guess what I miss is the low end torque.........never owned any type of Porsche either...

low end torque won't be a Porsche. You will find yourself turning every corner faster and with a bigger smile though :)

I'm curious at your first post. "we all no the dificiences of the 348 and 355" what do you mean? I'm thinking of adding a 355 to my garage. Please enlighten me. I know they have a bad rep for maintenance but they are very nice looking cars.....

Mark, I realise this question was not directed at me but as an owner of a 355 and having had my current one for nearly 2 years I can say that the rep the 355 has is unfair, sure there might be some horror stories out there but I have found my car very reliable, I have had the headers done and other than that it has just been regular maintenance as one would expect with this type of car. My car is well used and driven fairly hard from time to time, it just keeps getting better.

355's get a bad rap and it is unfair, they are great cars.

all feedback i very much appreciate. their design is awesome. their sound is amazing. i was curious what he meant and if it's about the maintenance i'm sure if i find a well campaigned car i will be happy.

the prices of these things are crazy though. 40k to 100k with mileage all over the board no one wanting to answer questions. it's really an odd group selling out there right now.

    Thanks for the response

how about a maserati coupe? I think they are down in the 30k range. The right color combo can look sharp.

Well, since I sold the 348 in May :( :( :( I guess I really can only post the Ginetta (or the Scion!). The 348 is a great Ferrari and I am glad that I bought one. It has the right balance of raw sports car feel and good looks, with high performance a trailing attibute in today's modern car era. My impression is that unless you are on a track, the driver experience is what matters, and in a 348 it is very fulfilling.

    +355 ........ James :D!!!

To prospective 355 owners ................ the 355 does need regular, sometimes even extra maintenance ....... but so does anything else that performs to such a high level ... boats, motorcycles, airplanes ... ........... when any car becomes as much fun as the 355, it usually doesn't come free ........ so to those looking for a car with the 'reliability of a honda' you will get the 'joy of a honda' with it ........ ;)

The 355 IMO is by far the best looking and the best sounding of the v8's ............ a little extra maintenance pales to the adrenalin rush the 355 creates :D ................... the 355 is definitely not for the 'faint of heart' ..........

I am NOT taking a shot at the 355. If I sold my 348 I would be looking for one, I think. But there are known problems inherent in the motor that can be exceptionally expensive. I am also not convinced that most guys can do their own engine out service, which adds to the expense of ownership as well. If I thought I could sell my car in this economy and add another 30k for a well sorted 355 I would probably do that.........I really like my 348. I have it all done now, everything works like it should - it is absolutely stunning. So, please, don't be offended, I think a 355 is a good car too.....
