Man, yours are way bigger than mine, buddy. :p Dropping a valve is something I have nightmares about.

As for which car to buy, you have some pretty good comments above. If you can live with the flying mirror (I couldn't), the early cars are a great deal if you buy well. Find a fanatic who has done everything. Pay a bit more if you have to for the right car. It's always the best strategy.

As for personal experience, I confess none on the TR. I shopped them a great deal, however, as recently as last December and investigated everything I could. I've never owned a 355, but I still wouldn't buy one without a bronze valve guide replacement.

I've recently heard that pre 90 TR's need to have upgrade problems done by the owners with no help from Ferrari. The one I can remember is the oil chain master link departing the chain. The Ferrari Mechanic suggested I buy a 90 and above car that has had a documented belt/tensioner/full service just done. 90's and newer cars had the upgrades done by Ferrari. Any comments??

I've been there - agonising over which one. Do the research then -
Stop thinking about it. Do what I did, scratch up the bit extra and

    Buy a '94 512TR

A much better car all round, stiffer, better handling, more powerful, more robust gears, huge brakes and 3 or 4 times more rare.

Benefited from all the chassis dynamics work on the F40 and about 10 years of experience and development

    Just loving it

Is a 88.5 really the same as a 90 Testarossa??? Same car?
