Yesterday I was with a friend in an office building in downtown Austin. She was on her way to an interview and I was going to grab a coffee and wait for her to finish. As I was walking out the building, next to the reprgraphics copy shop, I noticed an indescrete office with 'tilke' written by the door. The name sounded familiar but I didn't think so much about it.

I sat down in the coffee shop, ordered a cappuccino and pulled out my latest subscription of F1 Racing Magazine (a personal favorite if you haven't read it). Amongst the great articles and photographs was a piece on the new Austin F1 circuit and it mentioned the designer behind the project, Herman Tilke. Suddenly 2 and 2 became F1 and I closed the magazine and headed back to the office.

Without looking to obvious I peered in and couldn't really see much behind the blinds to give away the brain trust of a Formula 1 circuit construction office, but once I stepped in the door tell-tale circuit maps lined the wall. I was greated by a smartly dressed gentleman who was working in front of schematics and a lap top. He told me it was in fact the headquarters for the project and their group was from Germany. I didn't bother him too much about when I would be able to get on the track, but he did know some of the racers I was involved with in Europe and he did tell me he thought it was quite cold here in Texas!!

While I would like this to be a post encouraging you to go ahead and purchase your season tickets, i'll try not to get too far ahead of myself! Atleast this is a post to say the boys in Austin are hard at work to build something! Whether or not they have the quarter billion its going to take to put up such a monument to speed, I don't know, but atleast they have enough money to fly some authentic looking guys from Germany which is certainly better than nothing!!!

    Cheers

    Michael

That's a cool story, thanks for sharing! My fingers are crossed that they are able to build the circuit in time; I know a few of us are hoping to make the trip for the 2012 race.

    Very cool story...

Nice to know that the schematics were for race circuits and not carbon-fiber toasters

...then I might have been really concerned. ;)

    Thanks for sharing Michael.

I took a 15 minute online survey today for the Austin F! group that asked about pricing for Club Section seating, as well as grandstand stuff. Talked about possible seat licenses, and 3-5 & 10 year seat contract possibilities. How many seats you might want in each section, and what other types of racing you would be interested in at the track.

There was some artist mockups of seating areas and club sections, as well as grandstand locations and possible pricing.

They spent considerable time putting this survey together, and hope they get the responses they need.

Bring on Bernie and his madness.
