Depends on condition of the car and color combo.

Catalytic converters and manifolds are still a problem, valve guides however are not a problem.

Robbie, were you able to confirm build date for those three cars? Were they early, mid, or late 99 cars? Just curious to know....

Seriously? That's news...I've never heard of one confirmed '99 guide failure (talking with the experts on Fchat). I seem to recall D. Helms and Brian in different threads saying they've never had to fix a '99 failure. Any more detail? Does that tech post in Fchat?

I find this hard to believe. My Tech has been a Ferrari specialist for twenty five years, he has never seen bad valve guides on a 99.

Oh well, I guess I will find out as I drive my car.

Robbie is correct. Top Ferrari mechanics have reported bronze guides on late 355s. Additionally, 348s, 550s and other can suffer the same fate. They have bronze guides as well. Fact...

Most on here know its not enough to have an f-car these days to have something unique....... ....... red f-cars are everywhere!! Every f-car I have seen on the road was red!!! Even the neighbors babysitter and grandma have matching red 348's........ ............... so do something bold and worry about what color you want :).

You won't go wrong with red.....They don't call it "Resale Red" for nothing, you know ;)

But I don't think black is any more difficult to sell than red or yellow.

As for the f1 system, here is a recent thread:

I personally have seen bronze, over worn guides from a 550 and held them in my hands. The mechanic who told me this regarding 99 355s, is most likely the same one who told Robbie. Let's just say that he is a well respected guy in the Ferrari community. He has told me that he personally replaced bronze guides on three 99 355s. According to him, they all were after the magic assembly number as well. He reported them to Ferrari and that was that. It could be that theyhad a few bronze guides laying around one day back in 99 and thought they would use them. Who knows...

Reportedly (by the FChat community - watch that thread for a few days) 456 and 550 models still used bronze guides. The V-8 line up was changed with the '98 MY F355. Still, it has been reported that there are "transition" cars that may have bronze guides from remnant stock that Ferrari didn't want to toss. I am getting to the point that, when considering a F355, I am going to have to factor in a potential guide replacement, period. PPI and leak down/compression test by skilled mechanics become a must.

$120K if there is a supermodel in the passenger seat who goes with the car.

I will venture $80K-$90K, certainly not more if it needs a major service right away. The Spiders are more money. We're heading into winter, and there's a good supply of 355s on the market.

Not many 360s are under $100K yet, btw. Just the early 360 Modenas with >10K miles showing.

    To the alleanza!!

On a more serious note, buy what you like. I have a black metallic/tan 328 and at every show I attend I'm surrounded by a dozen 'resale red' 328s. I wouldn't run away from the right car just because it was red, but there's nothing cooler than having a Ferrari in a color that whispers. Nero 355s are smoking hot. OTOH, they also look great in giallo - I just don't need that much attention, lol.

    This is incorrect.

I don't know about those other cars, but it is true that the 348 has the same bronze valve guides as the first 355s. However, the 348 guides will NOT "suffer the same fate" as those on the 355. If someone can show me a situation in which a set of 348 valve guides went bad just after normal use, I'd be surprised.

The problem with the 355 is that the engine heats up to 5 million degrees (slight exaggeration). The 348 engine doesn't get nearly as hot, and therefore the guides stay safe. In fact, I don't think any other Ferrari engine gets as hot as the 355's, but we would have to check with the experts on that one.

Counter point taken... I was only stating that other f cars carry bronze guides as well.

I don't think I would ever sell my F355 for it's estimated value. It's too much fun for the money. It has the looks, sound & driving experience you can't replace for $60K. It's just a Bad A$$ car that is worth way more than it's value. I'll buy newer Ferrari's in the future & keep the '95 F355 for the total Ferrari experience.
